Message from the Principal

Kaya Carramar Families
I trust you all had a fantastic ‘loooooong’ weekend, enjoyed some family time, caught some sunshine, maybe explored some of our beautiful state, and did something special to celebrate WA Day yesterday.
Our Winter/Makaru rains have arrived, and it would appear we are in for a few wet days. The rain is certainly timely for our gardens and water reservoirs, and hopefully our farming communities will get some too to help get their cropping season off to a good start.
With the cooler weather, a reminder that our children need to be dressed in our school uniform, demonstrating respect for our School Dress Code. Andrea does a fantastic job ensuring there are plenty of jackets and other winter uniforms available, both new and second hand. Please remember to clearly label all items of clothing.
Life continues to be very busy at our wonderful school with our students engaged in many exciting events and learning opportunities. Unfortunately, I have missed a few of these due to succumbing to a nasty respiratory virus that is impacting many of us. As you are no doubt aware, there is much illness in the community, including COVID, and attendance levels of both students and staff (plus our relief staff) have been significantly affected. Please take care of yourselves and your children. If they are not well, please keep them home until they are better. Thank you to Ms Delcaro and Ms Morgan, and all Front Office Staff for their great leadership in my absence – it’s good to be back!

National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week 2025
Last week we acknowledged National Sorry Day (26th May) and National Reconciliation Week. National Sorry Day is a prelude to National Reconciliation Week, which started on 27th May and concludes today with Mabo Day. This is a time for all Australians to reflect and learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation. As reflected in our School Business Plan, we value the culture and learning that Aboriginal people, their families, and communities bring to our schools. Guided by the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework of the Education Department, our shared commitment to cultural responsiveness, and practices, and an understanding that truth-telling, truth-listening and historical acceptance lies at the heart of reconciliation - our journey continues. Thank you, Mrs McLeish, for coordinating these learnings across our school.
Also last week many staff and members of our Board and P & C, and extended community were involved in Validation Interviews as part of our Public School Review (PSR). The PSR process involves self-assessment and review of our performance over the past 3-5 years in six domains of School Improvement and Accountability: Use of Resources; Leadership; Learning Environment; Teaching Quality; Student Achievement and Progress and Relationships and Partnerships. Collectively we reflected on our performance for each of these domains and submitted evidence to support our judgements against the Department’s agreed set of Standards. Whilst the process is intense, and at times exhausting, it is also very affirming!
The collaboration and support we show for each other, our integrity, generous spirit, and high expectations of ourselves and our students, were observed very clearly by the reviewers who visited last Wednesday. They left with an indelible impression of our school as a respectful high care environment, with strong partnerships with our community. The final report will be available before the end of the Term and will be shared on our website.
Teachers have been busy finalising Semester 1 Reports and are looking forward to discussing these with you at our inaugural Parent Teacher Interviews on Wednesday 25th June. A reminder that school will close at 12.30pm on this date. Thank you for making arrangements for your children for the afternoon. Interviews will commence at 1.00pm and conclude at 5.00pm – a reminder that children do not attend the interviews. Thank you to all families who have scheduled a meeting with your child’s/ren’s class teacher and or Specialist Teachers. If you have any queries how to do this, please do not hesitate to contact the front office. In addition to your child’s Achievement and Progress, their Attitude, Behaviour and Effort across all aspects of learning will also be discussed.
All Reports will be sent out via Connect on Friday 27th June – please ensure that you have Connect set up. If you have any questions, please contact the front office.
Have a wonderful fortnight everyone. Keep warm and dry.

School Sport WA Cross Country
Carramar Primary School students put on an outstanding display of talent and determination at the recent School Sport WA Primary Cross Country Championships. Held at a new venue for the first time, the course offered perfect conditions for racing and thrilling fast finishes.
The event brought together top runners from across the state, and Carramar’s representatives stood out for their impressive athleticism, combining endurance and speed to tackle the demanding course. Each student approached the challenge with remarkable determination, showcasing the results of their hard work and training.
Cheered on by proud spectators, Carramar athletes not only delivered strong performances but also demonstrated great sportsmanship, encouraging their peers and competitors throughout the day. Their efforts were a testament to the school’s values and commitment to excellence in both sport and character.
Carramar Primary School is incredibly proud of its students for their achievements and the way they represented the school with pride, respect, and resilience on such a prestigious stage.

Constable Care
Carramar Primary School recently welcomed the Constable Care team for an engaging incursion focused on child safety, education, and harm prevention. Students participated in interactive programs including First Aid Heroes, Wheely Safe Adventures, Trending and Frenemies, each designed to empower children with the knowledge and confidence to make safer decisions in difficult or emergency situations.
These sessions were created to empower children by increasing their awareness of personal safety, promoting responsible behaviour, and building confidence to act appropriately in both everyday challenges and emergencies. The incursion provided a fun and meaningful way for students to understand safety in their community while fostering important life skills.

Year 5 & 6 Visual Arts
In Visual Arts this term, the Year 5 and 6 students are learning about sculptures. They have designed and are making paper mache masks. Here are some photos of them having fun making their masks.

Reconciliation Week in Kindergarten
In recognition of Reconciliation Week, the Kindergarten children watched a short clip called ‘Walking Together’ about the history of our ancestors. We discussed the significance of the Aboriginal people’s long cultural connection to country and how walking together can create a shared path to the future. We created a visual representation of walking a path together by cutting out an outline of our foot and placing them side by side.

Sharing Successes
Congratulations to Casey and George from Room 12, Year 5 for learning all of their multiplication facts. Both boys are able to recite the times tables and recall random multiplication facts within seconds. Fantastic work Boys!
