Issue 15 2023
Message From the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
It was wonderful to see so many of you engaging with your children at our recent Parent Night – Learning Journeys, as they celebrated aspects of their 2023 learnings with you. Thanks also to our hardworking and dedicated P & C for coordinating sales of food and ensuring everyone’s tummies were catered for. Congratulations to all staff, for the many teaching and learning opportunities you have planned for our students thus far this year. (See picture elsewhere)
Our Phys Ed Team and supporting staff, are to be commended for the roles they played in preparing and supporting our students at the recent Interschool Carnival days, along with navigating the change in arrangements due to the weather. Thank you also to our students for doing their very best and demonstrating great sportsmanship. It is often difficult to maintain focus and manage disappointment when circumstances outside your control present themselves. Being able to bounce back and show resilience demonstrates strength of character. I would especially like to thank parents who respectfully supported both our students and staff on Friday, during some challenging circumstances. The model of behaviour that you presented to your children is to be commended. (See results and pictures elsewhere).
We are very grateful of the time that our School Board members volunteer in their role of promoting the school in the community and providing governance. The tenure of some of our existing School Board members is coming to end. As such there is opportunity for 3 Parent Representatives to join the School Board in 2024. Should you wish to nominate for one of these positions, please complete the nomination form attached and return it in an envelope, addressed Attention Principal: School Board Position 2024, to the office by Friday 20th October 2023. For further information about School Board roles and responsibilities, please do not hesitate to contact our existing Board Members or Maree James (Principal) on 9405 0600.
Thank you for another successful, albeit very busy term. The care we collectively share for our children, both in school and out of school, demonstrates the pride that you have in supporting our children to be respectful and responsible members of our community. The positive partnerships we have with you, support our children to achieve their individual potential and bode well for ongoing success at our wonderful school.
Whether you are planning a vacation or a staycation, I hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday and enjoy some down time with family and friends.
Term 4 resumes on Monday 9th October for teachers and Tuesday 10th October for students.

Sharing Succesess
Recently, Isabella from Year 3 finished her rugby season. She was awarded the most improved trophy for the season! With her team, Alkimos Tigers, Isabella got to play at Optus Stadium before a big game! She said she was really nervous because she’d never been there before, but it was very awesome! Congratulations Isabella!
On the 9th of September, Sabine spent a whole tiring 2 hours to get her brown belt in martial arts, awarded with an amazing certificate and a special new uniform with her very own name on it! Sabine goes to Life Martial Arts in Joondalup with her sister, as well. Sabine said it was very exciting although, it took a long time, but it was worth it.
On the 17th of September, Summer had a netball wind-up. She had no idea she was going to get the Spirited Player award for the season! She plays for Currambine Netball Club. Summer says the club is very skilled so she must have been unimaginably great at Netball to get the award out of so many! The spirited award is for the special players who always has a smile on their face, plays in all positions without an argument and plays to the best of their ability.
Interschool Carnival
As the term wrapped up Carramar Primary School attended the long awaited Interschool Athletics Carnival held across two days at home turf and Banksia Grove Primary School. This year the school managed to clinch four championship medals and two runners-up medals. With an impressive overall score of 1234 points, Carramar PS secured a commendable 3rd place. We would like to thank the school community, its supportive parents, and our exceptional students for their outstanding performance. Your hard work on the day makes us incredibly proud!

Kaya Carramar Community,
We made it! Last week of term 3. What a busy week 8 and 9 it has been at Carramar PS. Last week the entire school took place in R U Ok day. I love how we didn’t just do this over one day, but an entire week. A huge thankyou to Mrs Block and the Year 6 Leadership Team who ran all the lunch time activities, packed the thousands of yellow beads into tiny bags to distribute to every single person in the school and did all the organising prior to this big week.
R U Ok day is a very important day, its not just about asking if someone is Ok, but the importance of educating our young people on how to have this conversation and ask the question. It’s not always about giving a solution to the problem but listening and encouraging your friends to speak with a responsible and trusted adult.
With school holiday days away, I thought I'd share some fun things to do over the next two weeks.
- Perth Royal show at the Claremont Show Grounds. With many rides, activities, showbags, food, competitions and more, this is a day full of excitement. It can be a costly day out, but you will definitely make some fantastic family memories.
https://perthroyalshow.com.au/ - Pay a visit to the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre. The library is free to visit and has a huge range of books you can enjoy and borrow through out the year and holidays. Also head over to the website to see what free activities are happening over the school holidays. You can visit the library at 3 Rocca Way, Wanneroo.
- One place to visit that is very close to my heart and it is free to visit is the DFES Education and Heritage Centre. It is based in the old Perth Fire Station in the city and has a huge range of education from Fire, SES, Weather safety and more. My children love going there. There is an old fire truck kids can climb in and dress up as fire fighters. It’s a great day out and you will also be educated in all areas or DFES and safety. I highly recommend attending as fire season is right around the corner. Please do check for the opening hours as they are not open every day.
https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/education/education-and-heritage-centre - Pit Stop Park in Banksia Grove. Pit Stop Park is a wonderful playground with bike tracks, nature walks, water features, picnic area and more. The park is also a gated area which makes it that bit easier to keep your eye on the kids. I often take my kids here for a BBQ and a bike or scooter ride. The park can be found on the corner of Snuggle Pot and Grandis Blvd in Banksia Grove.
Have a wonderful, safe and memorable school holidays. I look forward to seeing everyone’s bright smiling face in term 4.

R U OK Day by S5 Year 5
As part of R U Ok Day, S5 read the book “Silly Billy” by Anthony Browne.
‘Silly Billy’ is about a boy called Billy who was always worrying. His parents tried to help him, but it wasn’t until he visited his Grandmother and told her about his situation that he found a solution to his problem…Worry dolls. Worry dolls come from the Central American country of Guatemala and are traditionally made from tiny pieces of wood, cloth and thread. The children of Guatemala would tell a worry to each one before bed and then place it under their pillow before going to sleep. This would allow them to wake up in the morning feeling much less troubled. This is a custom that has now spread around the world. S5 made our own worry dolls to help us on R U Ok day to be able to share our worries and have more peaceful sleep each night (and it was fun!)

Music with Ms M
Pre Primary students have enjoyed making their own instruments this term. They explored beat and rhythm in their play. It was wonderful to see an array of instruments that allowed students to sort them into family groups; shakers, tappers, scrapers, strummers and instruments that you blow into. What fun it was for our students when playing them.
