Issue 14 2023
Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
This week is National Child Protection Week.
Thank you for continuing to support our children develop skills to ‘keep themselves safe’ in various situations; be that travelling to and from school by themselves, being safe on line, when using their mobile phone, talking to people they don’t know or talking to a trusted adult if something is bothering them. These are all strategies we cover as part of our Protective Behaviours Program.
We are also very grateful for the support our community provides in helping families and children in need, and know that by continually working together, we will do our best to make sure every child in every community has a fair go.
Our staff and students are busy doing the final touches in readiness to celebrate their 2023 Journey of Learning tomorrow at our annual Open Night.

- Our Chaplain (Bonnie Rodman) will also have a Chaplain’s Corner set up in the Library.
The recent Faction Carnival was an excellent celebration of sportsmanship and teamwork. Sincere thanks to all staff, including our Kindy and Pre-Primary staff, who did an awesome job preparing our younger students for the day – for some of our younger ones, it was their “first time out on the big oval”. It was wonderful to see our whole school community come together to enjoy such a fantastic day. Thanks once again to our P & C for their catering and to everyone involved in getting the lunches ready. Special thanks to Mr Malatios and Mr Cox for coordinating it all. (see photos elsewhere)
Our Interschool Team has been selected and staff and students are busy dodging the rain trying to get some practice in prior to the Interschool Carnivals next week, hosted by Banksia Grove Primary School.
Wednesday 13th September: Jumps and Throws at Houghton Park, Carramar
Friday 15th September: Track Events and Team Games at Banksia Grove PS
We wish all involved the best of luck.
We welcome our current group of Pre-service Teachers: Madison, Mia, Amber, Morgan, Tahlia, Stephanie, Charlotte, Kerry, Neill, Tahisha, Charlie,Jones, Paula, Kelly Anne, Emerald, Viviene and thank our mentor teachers; Mrs Robinson, Mrs Jordan, Mrs Oliphant, Mrs Petrovsky, Mrs Van Kuyk, Ms Hands, Mr Greyling, Mrs Smith, Mrs Ellis, Mrs Holden, Mrs Atkinson & Mrs Camm. They are currently attending every Wednesday, getting to know their students and learning from their mentor teachers in readiness for three weeks of practicum in Term 4. We are very grateful to our mentor teachers, for supporting our preservice teachers with their career path. Special thanks to Ms Morgan for her coordination of our pre-service teacher and work placement programs.
Next week our Student Leaders, with support from Mrs Block, will present a week of excellent activities to acknowledge R U OK? Day. Please keep a look out for further communication from our Leaders.
At our recent Faction Friday Assembly, we discussed how we can all make a difference in the lives of everyone, young or old, by ‘checking in’. A conversation and that simple question, “Are you OK?” could be a great start to helping someone, who might be struggling with one of life 's ups and downs. If you notice a change in what your friend is doing or saying - trust that gut instinct and take the time to ask them “Are you OK?”. Thank you for discussing this important initiative with your children.
Please remember that our school day starts at 8.40 am SHARP. This is when the teaching and learning programs start. Children arriving after 8.45am are required to sign in at the office for a LATE NOTE. There has been a significant increase in students arriving late, which greatly impacts on the connection they make to their classes and them getting set up for the day. Thank you for your support in getting the children to class for an 8.40am start.
In closing I hope that all the special men in the lives of our children, be they fathers, grandfather, pops, uncles, big brothers or male carers, had a wonderful day on Sunday and enjoyed all the spoils that came their way.
I look forward to seeing our Carramar families’ tomorrow night as you come along to celebrate the journey of learning that your children have been on this year.
Have a wonderful fortnight everyone.

Chaplain's Corner
Kaya friends!
This week we celebrate Carramar’s fabulous Education Assistants. Our Education Assistants are such a vital part of our school. We are so luck to have such wonderful EA’s to help our students learn and assistant our teachers with any task at hand. A big thanks to Delilah from Room 7. Delilah walked around the school with me and assisted handing out little goodie bags for our EA’s.
Just a friendly reminder of the process if your child would like to see the chaplain.
Your child needs to let their teacher know that they would like to speak with the Chaplain. From here their teacher will send me an email and I will make a time to see your child.
Please keep in mind I am extremely busy and depending on the urgency I may not be able to see your child straight away.
Big congratulations to winning faction Binda on another amazing win this year. It was so wonderful witnessing all students give their best and cross over the finish line. I had the chance to meet more wonderful parents and carers, thankyou for coming over and saying hello.
Thanks again to Room 7, Mrs Pearce for having me in their classroom for story time.
So much excitement in the classroom today making there boats out of recycled materials. What a fun way to spend a Friday.
Today Room 16, Mr Waltons class had their MasterChef challenge. I was given the task to taste test all the amazing meals created by the students. I was very impressed with the presentation of the tables and food. Well done to all the students, I enjoyed trying all your meals. Can’t wait to find out who won the Master Chef challenge.
Happy Father’s Day to all of our wonderful Carramar Dads, Poppy’s, Grandads, Uncles and special people. Thankyou for playing an important role in the lives of our Carramar Students. I also recognise that this may be a difficult day for some. Day of grief, uncertainty and unanswered questions. Enjoy the special people who have stepped into this role and been there for you.

P&C Chat
What an amazing day we had at our Carramar Faction Carnival. The weather certainly pulled out all the stops, the teachers worked so hard to make the day run so smoothly and our P&C Stall was the most delicious display of treats and lunch. Thank you to those who came along to set up. Some very familiar faces in the mix there. We would truly appreciate some new faces lending a hand at our next event. We understand that everyone is very busy, so an hour here or there makes a huge difference.
I don't know about you, but I couldn't make a choice between the array of treats on offer care of our Carramar bakers! There were jelly cups, lolly bags, brownies, cupcakes, savoury muffins and sweet muffins, fudge, slices and way more. Thank you to everyone who donated, served and purchased. The day was a glowing success because of you all.
To the amazing Dads and Nunnu's who gave their day to cooking hundreds of sausage sizzles and burgers, we can't do without you. You make sure the students, staff and parents are fed each and every time. Thank you for your dedication to the P&C as well as our school.
To the parents who packed the students lunch.... we appreciate you and your time given. You guys smashed it out of the ball park! Lunches were made so quickly and efficiently. Everyone enjoyed a delicious hot lunch.
A huge thank you to our President, Simone West, for being the mastermind behind our events and thinking through every detail.
Thank you Andrea Cassar for making sure everything is ordered, organised efficiently and delivered on time. You never forget anything.
Well done to each student and faction, with a shout out to our WINNING FACTION.... BINDA 💚💚💚
The P&C held their annual Fathers' Day stall. We hope every father, father figure, step dad and grandfather was spoilt rotten on Sunday and that you loved the gift chosen by your child. The children loved choosing their perfect gift. We heard so many excited comments and beautiful manners from the students visiting the stall. Congratulations to the 3 winners of the Father's Day Raffle.
We in the 'biz, refer to this season as the Sausage Sizzle season. We are at it again THIS WEDNESDAY for our whole school Open Night, September 6th.
