Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
What a wonderful array of literary characters we saw today to celebrate Book Week. Reading everyday continues to be an important aspect of our students’ learning, with so many long term benefits, including mental stimulation; a medium for learning and vocabulary expansion; improving our memory, our writing, our focus and concentration and being a great habit for stress reduction. Our beautiful library is a central hub for our school and we sincerely thank our library officer, Tammy Gordon, for the great work she does to ensure our students have so many awesome books to choose from. Thank you for your ongoing support in promoting the importance of reading to your children and for preparing them in their creative costumes today. Read! Grow! Inspire!
Book Week
Over the past fortnight our school has certainly been abuzz with excitement, an absolute hive of many wonderful learning opportunities, showcasing how we value developing the whole child: Science Week, Year 1 and 2 Excursions, our first presentation assembly for the term from T11 and 12, Faction Jumps and Throws, and our choir performing at RAC Arena! What an array of experiences.
Science Week provided our students the opportunity of sharing their scientific learning through many exciting activities, demonstrate the investigative process, through the use of our whole school planners. Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to come along and join in these activities – the children loved it!
Our Year 1s and 2s enjoyed their excursions to Caversham and Cockman House, with the Year 2 students, teachers and parent helpers all joining in the fun and dressing in theme for the day. Thank you to all staff for arranging these events and to all parents who assisted with supervision of groups on the day.
The weather on Friday was superb for our Faction Jumps and Throws and all students are to be commended for the sportsmanship that they demonstrated. Congratulations to all and sincere thanks to Mr Malatios and Mr Cox for their coordination of arrangements on the day.
The week ended with our choir, who looked and sounded superb at RAC Arena on Friday night when they joined students from Year 3-7, from both private and public schools, to sing in One Big Voice. Over 7500 students and their families celebrated in joyous affirmation of the life changing power of song. Congratulations to our choir and to our soloist Ellie. Thank you to Mrs Malinvoic for her preparation of our students, Mrs Block and Mrs Parker for their support, and also our P & C, OSH and all parents for ensuring the children were well fed and watered and everyone got home safe and sound.
One Big Voice
We are all looking forward to seeing a sea of faction colours at our Faction Sports Carnival this Friday 25th August, with the children dressed in their faction shirts/colours and hats, everyone supporting each other and lots of fun being had by all. The weather looks like it’s going to be perfect. Thanks in advance to Mr Malatios and Mr Cox for their coordination of this event and all staff for their excellent support, especially our Early Childhood teachers, who do an awesome job ensuring our younger students have an exciting morning out on the “big oval” with the whole school. We hope to have time for some Parent Events. If previous years are anything to go by, I’m sure these events will be very entertaining and fiercely contested - get your teams ready.
To assist with ensuring the day goes well please familiarise yourselves with the arrangements as outlined on the following page.
Have a wonderful fortnight.

PRINCIPAL
Faction Carnival Friday 25th August 2023
Thank you for ensuring children come to school with all their needs for the day: hat, morning tea (lunch if necessary) and water bottle in their bags.
Please remember to apply sunscreen at the start of the day. Additional sunscreen will be available in the Faction Bays and at the Team Game stations
If coloured zinc or hair colour is to be used, we ask that this is applied at home.
Children are to report to class when the gates open at 8.30am (regular time).
Parents are encouraged to find a spot on the oval and set up for the day, in areas assigned to spectators.
After attendance has been recorded, Year 1-6 students will meet in their assigned faction areas before moving onto the track under the direction of their Faction teachers.
Kindy and Pre-Primary students will move onto the oval with their class Teachers and Education Assistants.
Whilst we welcome your support and encouragement, we ask that parents remain in the spectator areas. Faction Bays and Competition Areas are essentially classrooms. As such we ask that parents do not enter these areas - thank you.
Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students will return to their classrooms at the conclusion of their events (around 10.30am) and continue with their regular timetable for the remainder of the day.
As it is a regular school day we ask that children remain with their class/their faction for the whole day and are not signed out early to sit with parents – thanks again
Morning Tea for Years 1-6 will occur between the changeover of tabloid and track events. Students will remain with their teachers during this time.
Lunch Break: During the lunch break, children are welcome to sit with their families and friends.
Families with Kindy or Pre-Primary siblings are welcome to take their family to the Early Childhood Area for a family lunch. At the conclusion of the lunch break, Kindy and Pre-Primary children will return to class. Parents and older siblings will return to the oval for the remaining events.
For safety reasons there is to be no one on the track, during the lunch break, as this is when the timing gates are being dismantled.
The playground areas near the oval will be out of bounds for all students during the day.
Parents with younger siblings (not students) are welcome to supervise them using the playground during the day.
At the conclusion of the Carnival, presentations will take place on the oval.
Years 1-6 children will then return to class with their teachers.
Parents wishing to collect their children at this time are asked to sign them out at the classroom.
Thank you in advance for your support of these arrangements.
We look forward to seeing you there – I’m sure it will be a wonderful day.
Chaplain's Corner
Kaya Carramar friends!
I would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of this land. I am thankful for the nurture and care our past and present custodians have given to country that our community can learn and grow on.
What an exciting week it’s been! This year 12th – 20th of August Australia wide is National Science Week. I have loved being involved in all the wonderful science experiments that have been conducted amongst the classrooms. I have learnt so much, and I know all the Carramar students have too.
I had the pleasure of joining classrooms for their experiments. It was so lovely to see families and friends come into school and join in. Mrs Camm had us all in laughter with her funny science joke. Her joke was “Which is faster, hot or cold? Hot because you can easily catch a cold!” Great joke Mrs Camm.
Did you know that every Thursday the incredible team from OZ Harvest delivers fruit, vegetables and pantry goods to our school? We are very grateful to Oz Harvest for contributing to our school for families in need. If you or a family amongst our school community who would benefit from a food hamper, please let us know. Times are tough now, and we would like to support our school community as much as we can. Please email me directly on Bonnie.Rodman@education.wa.edu.au . When you email if you can please advise your child’s name and room number also.
This program is to help families in need. Any family who receives our hampers are kept confidential. Please don’t be afraid to reach out if this would assist you and your family. There is absolutely no shame in receiving our hampers.
A special mention to Mrs Blocks class for reaching the goal of 3000 Dojo points. Students celebrated after lunch with some fun interactive games and activities. Towards the end Mrs Block turned on the Karaoke. Lets just say room 15 had some talented singers, including Mrs Block. Thanks for inviting me to join in the fun!
Quote of the week:
Something my son reminded me of this past week “Practice makes progress not perfect as no one is perfect”.
Carramar Science Week 2023
The wonderful world of science was celebrated in style again this year at Carramar Primary.
Our students, their families and carers were fortunate to enjoy a wide variety of science learning experiences, not only in classrooms and the Science Lab, but also in various other settings. Students became the teachers!
A big thank you to all parents, grandparents and carers that came along to celebrate these wonderful learning experiences with the children.
Congratulations to all Carramar students. You demonstrated what it means to be a learner of science.
Go Science!
See you next year.
