Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
Last week August 1st hailed as not only “the horses’ birthday” but also the arrival of the Noongar Season of ‘Djilba', a transitional time of year, with a mixture of weather conditions: cold and clear days, rainy and windy days and the occasional sunny day or two. We have certainly had all of that over the past 8 days, plus a little rumbling of the earth!! Beautiful wildflowers are starting to pop and our animals are preparing to share their babies with us. Please be mindful of the magpies, who are keen to protect their families. Thank you for ensuring your children are kept snug and warm in the lovely uniform options available from our Uniform Shop.
Term 3 is traditionally known in schools as the “Sports Term” and that is certainly the case here at Carramar Primary. Following on from Wimbledon and an enthralling Ashes Series, our recent Diamonds Netball Team success and the wonderful efforts of our Matildas Soccer Team have definitely kept many of us glued to the tele. I am sure you enjoyed supporting your sporting favourites from your country of origin in these International Events also.
All students are eagerly gearing up to the Faction Sports Carnival to be held on Friday 25th August. Students from K-6 will be involved in this wonderful whole school event. The ‘reveal’ will be happening next Friday 11th August. This is when students receive the program of events which also outlines which events they will be participating in. Plans are in place to ensure there is time for parent participation, which traditionally has been a lot of fun. We look forward to seeing you there.
Congratulations to Year 1 and 2 students who are participating in In-Term Swimming at Water Ponyz. They are to be commended for their wonderful behaviour and engagement. I’ve no doubt they will sleep extra well on Friday night when the series is concluded. Our Cross Country runners should also be very proud of their efforts at last week’s State Cross Country Championships. Following a very wet and wild Wednesday, they were blessed with beautiful weather for the day. Thank you to all staff and parents for supporting your children with preparations for these events.
Cross Country Championships
Thank you to Mrs Parker and her team of Year 3-6 maths enthusiasts for their recent involvement in the Australian Maths Competition. The competition is designed to challenge and engage students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. Well done to all who took part - we look forward to the results.
At our recent Staff Meeting we celebrated the growth of our Science Teaching and Learning Program. Next week is National Science Week. It provides a wonderful opportunity to further raise the profile of Science in our school, in particular Investigative Science. Please keep an eye out for communications from your child/ren’s teacher/s regarding arrangements for Science Week. Thank you to Mr Greyling for his coordination of this event.
A very big thank you to both our Carramar Primary and wider Carramar community for your collective kindness and generosity in supporting our recent Teddy Bear Day for the Wheelchairs for Kids Program. We raised over $700 and have received a significant number of pre-loved and donated teddies and blankets. We will continue to collect teddies and blankets until the final week of this term.
Have a wonderful fortnight.

Message from Deb Parker (Deputy Principal - Early Childhood)
Hello everyone,
It was wonderful to see some of our pre-Kindy children attending our playgroup this week. Please remember, if you know of anyone who will be attending our Kindergarten in 2024, please direct them to our school website, where they can find out all the information about our school playgroup. Alternatively they can search Carramar Playgroup on Facebook.
A huge thank you and congratulations to Hollie Hawtin, our playgroup coordinator, who successfully won a grant for the school to purchase some wonderful resources.
Take a look at the children enjoying some of them.
Playgroup
Thank you to everyone who has sent in the completed enrolment forms for 2024. If you have a child joining Kindy next year, we must receive your enrolement as soon as possible. For more information, please see the school website.

In the last newsletter, you will remember that I wrote to you about Visible Learning and explained what is meant by learning intentions and success criteria. We are a ‘Visible Learning’ school and you may hear your child talking about these or telling you about their personal goals. All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 are encouraged to set goals and reflect on their own personal performance. They work towards being the best ‘learner’ they can.
Take a look at some of the photos below. Theses are current examples of Visible Learning in the Early Childhood classrooms at Carramar Primary School.
Australian Mathematics Competition 2023
On Friday, 33 students from Years 4 to 6 competed in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC). This is the first time the school has run the competition. Students had one hour to answer 30 problem solving questions using an online platform and were competing against other students from all over Australia. We await the results, with excitement, and will let you know of the results when we receive them. We congratulate all our students who participated and wish you the best of luck.
Chaplain's Corner
Kaya Carramar Primary School Community!
What a wonderful start to Term 3 we have had so far. With so many new families now amongst the Carramar community, I thought I would introduce myself again.
My name is Bonnie Rodman and I have been the chaplain at Carramar P.S since October 2021. I absolutely love my job as the school chaplain. I feel very privileged and humbled to be welcomed into your child's life and as a positive role model amongst the Carramar community.
A little about me:
I am a mum to three young children (3,5 & 8). I have a wonderful husband who is my greatest support and encourager. I love being active, running, 4WDing, camping and last-minute adventures. I am passionate about giving back to my community and being involved however I can.
When I'm not working as a chaplain, I am a volunteer bush fire fighter with our local brigade Wanneroo Central Bushfire Brigade. I really enjoy being part of a team that works hard to protect our local and regional communities. I often get the opportunity to participate in bushfire education and teach our students about fire safety and education in our classrooms.
I am a big believer in supporting our future generations to succeed, make positive choices and to become a contributing member of their community.
What is the role of a school chaplain? Great question!
My role is to be an additional support to our school staff, students and families as part of the Carramar Student Services Team. My role also includes supporting young people and their communities who may be facing challenging personal and social issues. I am here to listen, understand and refer to extra help, if it’s appropriate. I had a wonderful time today reading a story to a Year 1 and Year 2 class.
I would like to end by saying a massive thankyou to the Carramar PS community for being so welcoming and supportive.

Sharing Successes
Dominic from year 1 won a 2nd place medal for his age category, at his BMX tournament.
Lola from year 2 won 2nd place at her gymnastics competition. Lola’s favourite event in the competition was the bars. She competes for The Academy of Gymnastics.
James from year 6 won a 2nd place medal at his state cross-country race at Yellagonga. James enjoyed the race but it was hard work.
Well Done to ALL These Amazing Students

P&C Chat
Wednesday 9th August is the very last day to get your tea towels order forms in. Thank you to those who have sent their forms back. We are so excited to see how gorgeous the tea towels turn out. A huge thank you to Miss Dobbs and Mrs Malinovic for making sure the portraits are looking so amazing.
Our Term 3 P&C meeting is coming up on Monday 14th August (next Monday) at 6.30pm in the Carramar Primary staffroom. All are welcome and encouraged. Come down and listen in as we plan some fun activities and fundraising events for our school community. Offer new ideas or sit back and listen. These meetings are always open to everyone.
Notes have been sent home for the students pre-order lunch on Faction Carnival Day. Please fill in and return forms and payment to the front office. Faction Carnival will be held on Friday 25th August. We will be holding our cake stall as well as selling spectators lunch. We will be looking for volunteers to help on the day.
Year 5 parents, please keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming fundraiser for Year 6 camp 2024.
Year 3 Incursion- ReMida
On Wednesday, the students in Year 3 participated in an incursion with ReMida.
T11 created puppets using a wide range of recyclable materials. They couldn't use any glue or sticky tape so had to think of other ways to keep their puppet together. After making their puppet, they got into small groups and prepared a short play for the class.
T10 and T12 participated in a storytelling workshop. They had to work collaboratively in small groups to come up with a short story and perform it to the class using recycled props.
