Issue 14 2025
Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
This week and next we acknowledge some very important events on our school calendar: National Child Protection Week, R U OK? Day, Interschool Sport and our 2025 Learning Journeys.

The theme for this year’s National Child Protection Week is 'Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversation to Action'. While open discussions are crucial, words alone are not enough. It is very important that we turn dialogue into meaningful action.
Conversations help us understand issues, work out solutions, value community knowledge, and build strong social connections with our children.

These strategies are also presented in our Protective Behaviours Program. All families should have received a copy of our Protective Behaviours Booklet for Parents. If you have not received a copy please contact the front office. Thank you for taking the time to work through this book with your children; always take time to speak together with your children, encourage them to speak up, especially if things are worrying them, it is so important that they feel safe and heard.

Our Student Leaders, with support from Mr Huggins, are demonstrating the importance of “check in” conversations through the many activities they have planned throughout this week, leading up to R U OK? Day on Thursday 11th September. A conversation that starts with a simple question, “Are you OK?” could be a great start to helping someone, who might be struggling with one of life 's ups and downs. We can all make a difference in the lives of everyone, by ‘checking in’. Thank you for discussing this important initiative with your children.

We are very fortunate to have been chosen by YouthCARE to launch 2025 R U OK? Day, at Carramar Primary.
Gates will be opened earlier on Thursday, free coffee and wellbeing resources and activities will be available.
Thank you Chaplain Bonnie and Youthcare for your support and kind donations. We look forward to seeing you there!
I felt very proud watching the efforts of all our students at their recent Faction Carnivals; seeing how they supported each other to do their best was a wonderful celebration of sportsmanship, courage, and teamwork. Not only was the weather superb, there was a lovely calm to both days, both on the oval and in the Early Childhood area, where the Kindergarten events took place. It was great to see our school community come together and enjoy these events with the children. Sincere thanks to all staff, who did an awesome job preparing our students for the day. Thanks also to our P & C for keeping us fed and watered and special thanks to Mr Malatios and Mrs Kent and our Early Childhood staff for putting it all together. (Photos elsewhere)
Our Interschool Team is all but finalised. Students selected have been advised and team game training has commenced in readiness for the Carnivals in Week 9, hosted by Pearsal Primary School.

Sharing Successes
Cora from Room 6 is competing in a readathon. This amazing young pre-primary has read 41 books in the time span of around 4 weeks and has raised over $500. Wow!!! Cora says that she loves reading and finds it really fun. Her favourite book that she has read is ‘Monica the Marshmallow Fairy’. We hope that you can keep on reading more books Cora!

Lola from Room 7 has achieved her first medal for running in the HBF fun run! This course is extremely long so she said after the race she felt really tired but insanely proud of herself. We hope that Lola keeps running more amazing distances in the future!"

Science Week in Pre-Primary
What a wonderful Friday afternoon we had in Pre-Primary as parents, grandparents, siblings and students gathered in the early childhood playground to celebrate Science Week!
There was so much to explore, make, and observe. Students watched sultanas “dance” in water, created a tornado in a jar, and tested cars and ramps to see how far they could travel. They made flying machines and rockets to launch into the sky, experimented with spinning tops that drew pictures, explored the power of magnets, and tested objects in the float-and-sink tank.
It was an afternoon full of curiosity, discovery, and lots of fun for everyone involved!
