Message from the Principal

Kaya Carramar Families
Our school has been a hive of wonderful learning with a raft of activities over the past fortnight. The photos throughout the newsletter are testament to the great collection of experiences the children have had - Year 1 Caversham House excursion, Year 2 Play in the Past incursion, Year 5 Bushfire incursion (Part 1), the ongoing work of our Year 6 CoW students with their 2025 Project, and course, Science Week and Book Week. Wow! Thank you for your ongoing support of your children’s learning. It is so important to share their journey with them.
Science Week once again provided our students with the opportunity of sharing their scientific learning with family members through many engaging activities. The sign in lines were long, the crowds were large, and the children loved it! Thank you to staff and all family members who were able to come along and join in. We hope you enjoyed your learnings
We certainly have some very clever and creative parents, judging by the array of literary characters in the school last Friday. Thank you for assisting with the preparation of your children in their creative costumes for our Book Week Dress Up Day. It was especially lovely to see some of the children enjoying some quiet moments with a special book on the day too. As I said to the students “there is something very special about holding a good book in your hands and whiling away some quiet time– good books take us to places and can teach us many things”
Today, many classes participated in an interactive online session, from the State Library of WA with Andy Griffiths, author of more than 40 stories for children, including the Treehouse Series. Andy’s hilarious books have been embraced the world over. The children joined Andy to celebrate the launch of his newest book, You and Me and the Peanut Butter Beast. Andy spoke with the children about his writing inspiration, shared some secrets about this new series, introduced some of the stellar characters and answer some questions from the children.

Learning continues this week, with a sporting focus. Unfortunately, our Kindergarten Faction Carnival and Year 3-6 Faction Jumps, Throws and Long-Distance events which were scheduled for tomorrow, have been postponed due to the weather, and concerns about safety.
- Kindergarten Faction Carnival will now be next week: Tuesday 2nd September
- Year 3-6 Faction Jumps, Throws and Long-Distance events: Thursday 28th August
However, this Friday our PP-Year 6 students will participate in the track aspect of our Faction Carnival: with team game rotations and relay and sprint events. It is always a great day, with supporting each other, looking awesome in their faction shirts/colours and hats, and fun being had by all.
Thanks in advance to Mr Malatios and Mrs Kent for their coordination of the day and all staff, for their excellent support, especially our Pre-Primary staff, who do a great job ensuring our younger students have an exciting morning out on the “big oval”. We hope to have time for some Parent Events. If the enthusiasm from previous years is anything to go by, I’m sure these events will be very entertaining, so get your teams ready. To assist with ensuring the day goes well please familiarise yourselves with the arrangements as outlined on the following page.

We are extremely grateful for all our Education Assistants. They are the backbone of our classrooms; our “Superheroes Supporting Student Success” They play a vital role in supporting and fostering positive learning environments for our students. Whether it’s helping with general classroom management, assisting students with special needs, or undertaking administrative tasks, the contributions of our EAs are invaluable. Their unwavering kindness and dedication, along with their unique ability to connect with and support our staff and students make them a vital asset in our school.
To our amazing EAs: Shelby, Denise, Natasha, Donna, Kim, Jae-Maree, Nicola, Kerry, Cheryl, Ute and Leigh, along with our regular relief EAs; Simone, Ashley, Lisa, Nicole and Carley, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for your devotion, patience and kindness.

In closing, to all our dads, uncles, grandads’ pops and special father figures, I hope you have a very special day and enjoy your spoils on Sunday 7th September.
And to one of our dedicated dads, Mr Darren West, who worked tirelessly on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, in the terrible wet weather, to help get our school grounds looking spic and span, in the absence of our gardener, a VERY BIG THANK YOU! Staff and students alike were amazed at what you achieved Darren – thank you so much!

Have a wonderful fortnight everyone. I hope I see some of you at our sporting events, this week and next week.

Faction Carnival Day - Friday 29th August 2025
Thank you for ensuring children come to school with all their needs for the day: hat, morning tea (lunch if necessary) and water bottle in their bags.
The weather looks to be a sunny but chilly day, so please ensure the children pack their jumper and possibly track pants. Thank you for labelling all items of clothing with your child’s name.
As there is a chance we will get some sun, please remember to apply sunscreen at the start of the day. Sunscreen will be also available in the Faction Bays and Team Game stations.
If coloured zinc or hair colour is to be used, we ask that this is applied at home.
Children are to report to class when the gates open at 8.30am (regular time).
Parents are encouraged to find a spot on the oval and set up for the day, in areas assigned to spectators.
After attendance has been recorded, Year 1-6 students will meet in their assigned faction areas before moving onto the track under the direction of their Faction teachers.
Pre-primary students will move onto the oval with their class teachers and Education Assistants.
Pre-Primary students will return to their classrooms at the conclusion of their events (around 10.30am) and continue with their regular timetable for the remainder of the day.
Morning Tea for Years 1-6 will occur between the changeover of team games and track events. Students will remain with their teachers during this time.
Lunch Break: During the lunch break, children are welcome to sit with their families and friends.
Families with Pre-Primary siblings are welcome to take their family to the Early Childhood Area for a family lunch. At the conclusion of the lunch break, Pre-Primary children will return to class. Parents and older siblings will return to the oval for the remaining events.
For safety reasons we ask that children do not play on the track, during the lunch break. This is when the timing gates are dismantled and removed.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Faction Bays and Competition Areas are essentially classrooms.
Whilst we welcome your support and encouragement, we ask that parents remain in the spectator areas. Please do not enter the Faction Bays and Competition Areas - thank you.
It is a regular school day.
As it is a regular school day, children are to remain with their class/their faction for the whole day.
They are not to be signed out early to sit with parents – thanks again
At the conclusion of the Carnival, presentations will take place on the oval.
Years 1-6 children will then return to class with their teachers.
Parents wishing to collect their children at this time are asked to sign them out at the classroom.
Thank you in advance for your support of these arrangements.
We look forward to seeing you there – I’m sure it will be a wonderful day.
Year 1 Caversham House
On Friday the 15th of August, all the year 1 classes went to Caversham Wildlife Park for the day. It was perfect weather, and everyone enjoyed seeing all the animals. The day started with everyone watching the farm show at Molly’s Farm and then walking around the park meeting the animals. The highlight of the day was feeding the kangaroos.

Sharing Successes
A few weeks ago, Lola from Room 13, Year 4, flew to Melbourne for the Australian Gymnastics Competition. Her team, Neerabup Jets, were the only team from Western Australia and beat all the other Victorian Squads! Individually, Lola came 3rd in the bars, 6th in the beam, 4th in the floor and 5th in the vault. Lola also recently competed in a Neerabup Jets competition, receiving a floor award and a trophy. Lola says she loves competing!

Last week 3 of our year 1 girls (Ivy-grace, Scarlett and Abigail) participated in their first hockey carnival. They did so well. They lost a few but had a massive win against one team beating them 8-0. And they all played wonderfully and gave it their best shot even when they were versing some very good teams! They all thoroughly enjoyed it and all their hard work of skills and practice paid off when they got to put them into proper games!

Scarlett also went up a belt in Judo. She's on a roll at the moment!!
