Message from the Principal

Kaya Carramar Families
The past 10 days have certainly provided us with weather reflective of the Noongar Season of ‘Djilba', with a mixture of cold and clear days, rainy and windy days and the occasional sunny day or two. Hopefully the rain didn’t cause too many issues for you, it certainly made for very exciting conditions in the recent Avon Decent!
Our wildflowers are starting to pop, and our animals are preparing to share their babies with us. The magpies are keen to protect their families, so please take care!
Thank you for ensuring your children are kept snug and warm in our lovely uniform options from our Uniform Shop. We may need to add Wellies soon!

Yesterday and today, we marked the anniversary of the official opening of Carramar Primary School back in 2005!
Every student. Kindergarten – Year 6 has completed a piece of work and placed it into our stunning time capsule which has been painted by Ms Butler. This time capsule is not being buried! It is being hung in the office foyer for everyone to see.
We had great fun this morning making the number 20 with our entire school enrolment. We are looking forward to seeing the photo!

This week is National Science Week. The theme for this year is Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language. This theme invites students and teachers to delve into the mysteries of the Universe by exploring the languages of nature, including mathematics and quantum science. “Decoding the Universe” aims to inspire and engage students by exploring the mathematics and quantum science that underpin both the natural world and the modern technologies we use every day, from photosynthesis to satellite navigation. Science Week also provides a wonderful opportunity to further raise the profile of Science in our school, in particular Investigative Science. I look forward to seeing many parents visiting classes and becoming the students as your children take you on their Scientific Learning Journeys. Thank you to Mr Greyling for his coordination of this event.

Next week is Book Week and the theme is "Book an Adventure!". This theme encourages children to explore new worlds and go on exciting journeys through the power of reading. It also marks the 80th anniversary of Children's Book Week in Australia! As we know reading everyday is a very important aspect of our children’s learning, with so many long-term benefits. Our beautiful library is a central hub for our school, and we sincerely thank our library officer, Tamara Gordon, for the great work she does to ensure our students have so many awesome books to choose from. Thank you for your ongoing support in promoting the benefits of reading with your children and for preparing them in their costumes for our Book Week Parade next Friday 22nd August. I have no doubt we will see an array of literary characters ready for adventure!!

As mentioned in our previous newsletter, Term 3 is traditionally referred to as the “Sports Term”. Students are eagerly gearing up for our Faction Sports Carnivals. Kindergarten students will have their carnival on Wednesday 27th August on the ECE Lawn and students from Pre Primary-Year 6 will have theirs on Friday 29th August. Plans are in place to ensure there is time for parent participation, which traditionally has been a lot of fun. We look forward to seeing you at either or both days!
Have a wonderful fortnight.

Sharing Successes

A couple of Tuesdays ago, Tiffany in S5, Year 4 passed her piano exam. She plays with Forte Music School, and she thought it was easy and fun. What an amazing achievement Tiffany! We hope that you pass your other exams.

Jack from S6, Year 4 won a basketball tournament at Mater Dei College last Saturday, playing for the Joondalup Cobras. Jack said, “I thought it was difficult but also fun!” Good Job, Jack. We’re extremely proud of your achievements.
S1 Science
In Science the children are learning about the topic of living things. As part of their lesson, they went on a walk around the school to explore and take pictures of what they could find. During their walk, they discovered ants, bees, a worm, and many different plants. This activity helped them learn how to identify living things in their environment.

Year 2 Fun
The students enjoy playing together with their new sports equipment (hacky sacks, tennis balls and beanbags), playing 'piggy in the middle', throw and catch and other activities that improve their hand and eye coordination and social skills.
