Issue 9 2025
Message from the Principal

Kaya Carramar families
It is hard to believe we only have 3 weeks until the end of our first 6 months of schooling in 2025.
A quick reminder about our upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews – next week, Wednesday 25th June. Thank you to all parents who have scheduled an appointment on this date, to meet with your child’s class teacher and/or specialist teacher to discuss their Semester 1 Report. Bookings for these meeting close this Friday, 3.00pm. If you are unsure how to do this, please contact the office.
Arrangements for Wednesday 25th June are as follows:
· School will close at 12.30pm All students to be collected promptly. Thank you.
No lunch orders on this day
· Interviews will commence at 1.00pm and continue until 5.30pm.
· Students will not be attending interviews.
All Reports will be sent out via Connect on Friday, 27th June– please ensure that you have Connect set up. If you have any questions, please contact the front office.

Thank you to all families for your support and encouragement of our students to demonstrate our Expectations, including Respectful Behaviours before, during and after school.
At our recent Faction Friday Assembly, children were reminded of the importance of working together to commit to our Expectations. The students provided excellent responses when we discussed why and how working together to demonstrate these Expectations will help our school continue to be a GREAT school.
BEFORE SCHOOL: We aim to open all gates between 8.20-8.30am. Classrooms open at 8.30am.
It is important that children enter the school grounds in a calm and respectful manner and be ready to start the school day promptly at 8.40am. It is fantastic to see our students carrying their own bags. Whilst we acknowledge that sometimes it is ‘easier and quicker’ if mum, dad, nan or pop carry them for them, we thank you for encouraging your children to carry their own bags – this is a vital aspect of developing their independence.
Children have been reminded if they arrive prior to 8.30am, they are to wait quietly outside their classrooms. They are not to play on the grass, the playground or on any equipment before school. This includes all playground equipment and garden areas, and ‘Syd the Snake’. In the main, most children do this very well, but sometimes reminders are required.
When the classroom doors open, children are encouraged to, independently, get the items they need for the day out of their bags, zip up their bags and place them tidy on the benches or the hooks provided, enter the classroom quietly, placing personal equipment in the assigned areas, ready to start
their day. With our younger students, it is often tempting to “do it for them” because it is quicker, but encouraging them to do these things for themselves, further helps them to develop their independence – you’ll be surprised how quickly they will master this!
AFTER SCHOOL: This is our busiest period when up to 800 people of varying ages are travelling through the school. As such, safety is paramount! Children and families are encouraged to exit the school grounds calmly and promptly. Children are expected to carry their own bags, walk their bikes or scooters through the school area and walk calmly to the exits. Once again, in the main all children do this very well.
Children have also been reminded they are not play on the playground or on any equipment after school. This includes the grassed area in front of and including Syd the Snake.
SECURITY: To support the safety of our students who attend OSH, we aim to have our perimeter gates locked by 3.00pm. If parents have arranged meetings, please ask staff to unlock required perimeter gates at the conclusion of your meeting.

RESPECT: We discussed what RESPECT looks like in the classroom, in the playground, when we are transitioning around our school and when we are on excursions representing our school. What RESPECT looks like when we are talking to each other, listening at assemblies, responding to our teachers, how we talk to our parents and family members, when we are at the shops or out and about with friends.
Children to be reminded of the importance of using “Excuse me”, and “Please” and “Thank you”, waiting patiently, if the teacher (or our parents) are busy, being considerate of others and always showing gratitude and kindness, with our actions and our words.
We acknowledge that most of our children demonstrate Respectful Behaviours very well, most of the time. Some of our students may need some support to remember our Before and After School Expectations and some aspects of developing their independence, but we know with consistent messages of encouragement they will achieve these goals.
Carramar Primary is a GREAT school, and as evidenced in our recent Public School Review, this is the result of our collective actions.
Our roles, as adults, in modelling Respectful Behaviours are very important, and I thank you for your support in all these matters. The impressions we have on our children are long lasting.
Should you have any concerns regarding these matters, please do not hesitate to contact the office and ask to speak with myself, Ms DelCaro or Ms Morgan.
Have a wonderful fortnight everyone. Keep warm.

Year 4 Zoo Excursion
The Year 4 students all had a fantastic time visiting the zoo on Thursday 27th May. Students had the opportunity to be rangers sent on different missions within the African Safari section of the zoo. They had to read maps in order to do welfare checks on animals, observe the activities of animals and help to correct misinformation about different animals. Some students even got to use Walkie Talkies to communicate back to the head ranger. Students also compared Australian animals to other animals from around the world.

Sharing Successes
Brothers Ryder and Caelan had a great weekend of sport. Ryder plays for Eagles Junior Basketball Club and Caelan plays for Joondalup Kinross Jets.
Well done boys!

Well done to Kobe from Room 5 Year 1 on your fabulous creation during Design and Technology. The objective was to turn boxes in to something beyond just a box. His design was exactly like his drawing.

Year 3 Room 4
Earlier this term, the students in Year 3 welcomed a special visitor named Louise Shedden, from Back on Track Foundation, to present a very important message about Childhood Cancer.
We learnt through Louise’s slideshow presentation what cancer is. She explained it as a disease, an illness. But sometimes, the cells inside your body (referred to as lego bricks), can get very confused. When this happens inside your body, cells can get a little crazy - they build things wrong, they stop building things, they make too many of themselves.... That is what cancer does. It messes with your bodies’ lego bricks.
Thanks to Louise for her amazing presentation and educating us all in Nova’s brave fight. And even more amazingly, we are so delighted to hear that Nova has kicked cancer’s butt.
At the conclusion of her presentation, Louise and Nova gave the year three students the opportunity to enter a colouring competition to promote the importance of understanding what cancer is. Students were encouraged to use their creativity and lots of colour.
After much consultation, the winners of the colouring-in competition have been announced. Well done to all students who entered, and the winners of some wonderful prizes (Lego sets). Thank you, Nova, for announcing the winners so confidently and amazingly! Please refer to the photo below to find out who the winners were.

Celebrating Musical Pathways through IMSS and GATE
On Friday, 6th June, Lula —a current Year 12 student at Churchlands Senior High School—visited Carramar Primary School to perform for our students and share her journey in music. A former Carramar student herself, graduating in 2019, Lula began her musical journey through the IMSS program in Years 5 and 6, specialising in Classical Guitar. During her visit, she highlighted the many benefits of being a music student at Churchlands and how participation in IMSS can open doors to further opportunities in high school. We thank Lula for her inspiring presentation and for showing our students what’s possible through dedication and passion for music.
Another proud Carramar graduate, Leigh-Anne, successfully auditioned for the Churchlands GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) music program and is now thriving as a Year 7 student. A former IMSS Flute student at Carramar, Leigh-Anne recently performed as part of the Churchlands Concert Band. Ms Malinovic had the pleasure of attending the concert on Friday, 22nd May and was delighted to see Leigh-Anne's progress and performance.
Here at Carramar, our IMSS students continue to showcase their talents. Students learning Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, and Classical Guitar regularly perform at our Faction Friday Assemblies. On Friday, 30th May, some of our students had the opportunity to perform for parents in a special assembly. Thank you to all our families for supporting your children as they develop their musical skills.

P&C Chat

On the 23rd of May we celebrated P&C day. We, as the P&C, cannot thank the school, staff and students, enough for the wonderful support and letters of gratitude and appreciation that we received. We were absolutely blown away with the kind words and favourite memories mentioned in the letters. As well as the wonderful letters and assembly, we were treated to a truly beautiful morning tea, organised by the staff. We cannot tell you what it means to us, to have felt so appreciated. Our day did not end there, though. Those who could, attended a barbecue put on by Sabine Winton, to celebrate Volunteer Week. We have attended these barbecues in the past as they offer a wonderful chance to network with other P&C's in the Wanneroo area. See if you can find some familiar faces in the photos.

We ran our Hot Lunch Day on Tuesday 10th June. We hope the students enjoyed their hamburger lunch as much as we enjoyed making them. Our P&C team love seeing the smiling faces when the children get to have a hot lunch day.
If you are interested in being a part of our team or lending a hand at one of our events, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We are always ready to say YES to an extra set of hands and we love meeting new people.
