Issue 6 2025
Message from the Principal

Kaya Carramar families
We have had a wonderful start to Term 2. Our resident boobook owl sat peacefully in the tree above the walkway and watched over the students as they entered through the ‘rainbow gates’ last week. There has been a lovely collective calm throughout the school, and the children have settled into their routines, adjusting well to the timetable changes to accommodate our In-term Swimming program. Thank you for your support in preparing them each day and for your ongoing support of their learning.
We welcome Mrs Cathy McSorley and Ms Nicole Tyrie to our staff. Mrs McSorley will be teaching in S3 on Mondays and Ms Tyrie will be teaching in Room 3 on Thursdays. We are sure they will enjoy their time at Carramar - it is great to have them as part of our team.
Our commemorative ANZAC service at the end of Term 1 was a very respectful acknowledgement of an important aspect of our history. Thank you to Ms Malinovic for coordinating the event, to all special guests, Mr Ian Storey for his very moving Address, School Board Chair, Alex Dunster, Chaplain Bonnie, buglers, our School Ministers, the choir, our Scouts, students representatives from OSH, all staff and students, with special mention to our Pre-primary students who attended for the first time, and all parents and extended family who were able to attend.

Congratulations to all students who participated in Interschool Cross Country last term. Thank you to Mr Malatios and Mrs Kent for their coordination of this event, Mrs Morgan, Chaplain Bonnie, and Mr Saunders for assisting with supervision, and all parents who were able to attend and support their children. Our students are to be commended for their outstanding behaviour and sportsmanship. Selected students are now preparing for the upcoming State Cross Country event at the end of May. We wish them all the best. Please see further details in the below caption.

We have had a fantastic response to our In Term Swimming for Years 1 – 6 with close to 90% of students in these years levels participating. It has been a massive undertaking with timetabling and staffing and whilst there was a little hiccup on the first day, the students have shown great resilience and perseverance, and all is going ‘swimmingly”. Having spoken with many of the children, they are thoroughly enjoying the lessons. Whilst a couple of days have been a bit chilly, we are set to have a lovely warm end to the week. I have no doubt our students will sleep very well on Friday.

As mentioned in last Term’s newsletter, we will be offering an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their Semester 1 Report. Parents are strongly encouraged to take this opportunity.
School will close at 12.30pm on Wednesday 25th June.
Interviews will commence at 1.00pm and continue until 5.30pm.
Each interview will be approximately 10 minutes.
Please mark your calendars and make any necessary arrangements.
Students will not be attending these interviews.
Further information regarding booking procedures will be out via connect tomorrow.

Applications for enrolment for Kindergarten 2026 are now open. Please go to our website and complete your enrolment online:
https://www.carramarps.wa.edu.au/enrolment/
The closing date for Kindergarten Applications is the first Friday in July of Term 3. Applications may still be made after this date and will be considered on a case by case basis, in accordance with the Department of Education’s Enrolment Policy which can be found at http://www.det.wa.edu.au/policies. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate about the enrolment process, to call the school 94050600.

Eta Aquariids: For those of you who like an early morning, if you are awake and the sky is clear, you may be lucky enough to see the meteor shower known as the Eta Aquariids, tomorrow morning. The best time to view it will be during the pre-dawn hours, in the east before sunrise. If the conditions are good (and your eyes are focussed) you should see a meteor every minute or two. Don’t panic if you forget to set the alarm though, you can try again throughout the month of May. Good luck!

In closing I would like to say a very special “Thank you” to all our wonderful Mums, grandmothers, great grandmothers, aunties, and M’others’ for all their love and support. I hope you have a lovely day on Sunday. And special thanks to our P & C for their coordination of our annual Mother’s Day Stalls this week: tomorrow, Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th May.
Keep well everyone. Have a great fortnight.

National Family Reading
Year 6 Students from room 16 have been doing Reading Buddies with the Year 3 students from S4. They are doing such a good job and it is awesome to see the students being caring and supporting each other!!

Early Childhood News
Welcome back everyone,
This month is National Family Reading Month.
As the title suggests, National Family Reading Month encourages families to read together on a regular basis to create strong reading habits. We know that all children, with the help of their families, and us, as strong reading role models, benefit from a love of reading.
Our PP students took part in a live streaming of the book “Guess What We Are Doing Today”
Read by the author and illustrator.

Mrs Jordan continued reading to the students whilst they enjoyed eating their lunch in the fresh air outside.
The Premier’s reading Challenge is still running and another way for parents and children to discover the magic of Reading. Premier's Reading Challenge - Premier's Reading Challenge

Year 1 News
The Year 1 classes have had a great time at swimming lessons this past week. It is their first time participating in school swimming lessons and for some students it was their first time on a bus! They have all tried hard and are enjoying going to the pool each day.

Year 1, Room 3 and Year 4, Room 13 started buddy class last term on a Friday afternoon. The children met their buddy and have been participating in a wide range of activities together.
The Year 4 students have taken the younger students under their wing and are a wonderful example to them. Some activities they have been participating in are reading, games, logging on and using tech, activities about kindness and how to be a Carramar Star.

Sharing Successes

Eva from Year 1, Room 3 competed in the Starlight Dance competition and received 2 special mentions in her lyrical and jazz solos. This was Eva’s first ever dance competition and she says her favourite parts were hanging out with her friends and being on stage!

Abbey Sayers in Year 6, Room 16 won a coaches award for soccer. Abbey plays for Carramar Shamrock Rovers Football Club and has been playing for four years. Well done, Abbey!

James Furley in Year 3, S4 played his first game of Hockey for the Joondalup Lakers this weekend (3/5/2025). It was a massive accomplishment after only picking up the stick for the first time this season. He played back to back games and hit the ball with total confidence! The team came away with 1 win, 1 loss but they all tried really hard!

Indi Saunders in Year 6, Room 16 won 2 golf competitions for Lakelands Country Club. She came 1st place in both games, which is a huge accomplishment. Go Indi!

Reuben, Jaundre and Thomas's team won their tournament at the weekend with Carramar Shamrock Rovers.
Flute Easter Performance
Our Flute instrumentalists who are enrolled in IMSS with Mr Smith, performed to our Kindy students the end of last term.
Having our junior students as our audience gives our music students opportunity to practise their performance.

Interschool Cross Country
Students from across the Wanneroo Education Network gathered for this year’s Interschool Cross Country event. The course was challenging, but the atmosphere helped push runners to their limits. Spectators were treated to thrilling finishes, with several races decided by mere seconds. Beyond the competition, what stood out was the spirit of camaraderie—runners cheering each other on, congratulating their rivals, and showing what true sportsmanship looks like. A few runners were seen stopping to help other runners get to the finish line in the hot conditions. It was a day of determination, heart, and unity, proving once again that cross country is as much about character as it is about speed. Well done to all Carramar students helping our school finish in a close 2nd place overall.
Below are our medal recipients
Leo P- 1st place
Lexi T- 2nd place
Senan B -2nd place
Arnon S – 3rd place
Lincoln M – 3rd place

Chaplains Yarn

Kaya and welcome back to Term 2!
I hope you all enjoyed a restful and wonderful break over the school holidays; I think I ate way too many Easter Eggs myself.
It’s been wonderful to see the Carramar P S community return with such enthusiasm and ready to embrace the new term. Term 2 has kicked off with a splash—literally—as our swimming lessons began on the second day back! It’s been great to hear how the students continue build their confidence in the water and support each other with such encouragement. Swimming lessons are such a great way to build resilience, core body strength and general fitness.
I am excited that in many AFL clubs, Auskick and Junior have started. My family play AFL with the Wanneroo Junior Football Club (WJFC). I have a son in Auskick and the other in Juniors - Thats 5 days of footy for my family each week! I love being the Sports Chaplain at the Wanneroo Roo's because I get to see some of you play your games and learn new skills. It's also exciting to see you play from different clubs, especially when you verse my son's year 5 team. If you do see me out at these games, please do come say hello. You may even catch me playing my own game in the women's team.
Looking ahead, Mother's day is just around the corner. I love that at Carramar PS, one way the P&C help students celebrate the special women in their lives is with our upcoming Mother’s Day stall. It’s a lovely opportunity for students to purchase a beautiful gift to show appreciation for their mums, grandmothers, Aunty's and all those who care for them. I want to acknowledge that for some it may be a time of deep sadness, grief and loss. My thoughts are with you during this time.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I’m looking forward to a wonderful and meaningful Term 2 with our school community.

P&C Chat

Welcome back to Term 2. As a P&C, we like to hit the ground running, and that is exactly what we have done this term. Day 1 we were bundling Mothers' Day gifts ready for our children to make their special purchases this week. This is such a highlight for the P&C. It is always such a joy, seeing the students choosing their perfect gift for their someone special.
The P&C ran the Democracy Sausage Sizzle on Saturday 3rd May, for the Federal Election. Thank you to those who volunteered their Saturday to support the school and local community. There were some very satisfied voters. to one of our students. Erin was the very happy winner of one of our 'Guess the number of Jelly Beans' Jars, held at the Democracy Sausage Sizzle, 3rd May. Thank you for supporting the Carramar Primary School P&C.
