Issue 3 2025
Message from the Principal

Kaya Carramar Families
Thank you for your support and contributions to what has been a very busy but successful first five weeks of Term 1.
At our recent Faction Friday Assembly, we discussed the Commit aspect of our Act, Belong, Commit initiative: what it means to Commit to something, such as honouring our School Expectations, by being Respectful, Responsible and Safe Learners in the classroom and in the playground, with all adults and peers. We also discussed how to be a supportive bystander and help each other to make good choices.

The students viewed the story “My Strong Mind”, a story about developing our mental strength, realising it is not always easy, and how rewarding it can be to persevere and be your best you; the importance of focusing on the positives of each day and reminding ourselves how we can support each other to be good Learners.
Well done to all students who have honoured their commitment to our School Expectations and maintained their Good Standing. This augurs well for a very positive and supportive school community.
Year 3 and 5 students will share their great Learner qualities this week and next week when they undertake their NAPLAN Assessments. Thank you to all staff and parents for your support and preparation of the students. The best preparation for these assessments is a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a calm start to everyday. All we ask is for students to do their best. Special thanks to Ms DelCaro for coordinating all arrangements.
Our Year 6 students are getting very excited about their upcoming camp at the Kerem Adventure Camp, next week. We know they will come home with many special memories and stories of the adventures and challenges they faced and overcame. Organising a school camp is a considerable undertaking and involves staff being on duty 24/7 for the duration of the Camp. Sincere thanks to all staff involved: Mrs Block, Mrs McLeish, Mr Huggins, Mr Britts, Ms Butler and Mr Malatios. I appreciate your dedication and am sure our Year 6 students and parents do to

Next week we will be acknowledging Harmony Week: a week to celebrate our rich diversity, highlight inclusiveness, respect, and belonging for everyone. This year’s theme, “We All Have a Role to Play,” aligns with our vision to promote an inclusive and resilient learning community.
Students will be engaged in various teaching and learning experiences and the week will culminate with our Harmony Day Assembly on Friday 21st March with Pre-Primary - Year 5 students attending. Students are asked to dress according to their cultural heritage, wear orange, the colour of Harmony, or our navy and cherry school uniform. Year 4 will be hosting the assembly and there will be a special performance from our Pre-Primary and Choir students. Parents are most welcome to attend. We hope to see you there.
Have a wonderful fortnight everyone.

Physical Education @ Carramar
A Busy Start to PE!
Our students have been fully immersed in a variety of sports as they sharpen their skills and build their confidence. In cricket, the years 4,5, and 6 students are mastering the fundamentals, from bowling to batting, while Year 3 are learning the basics of T-ball for some fun, beginner-friendly practice. In AFL, the Year 2 students are working on their drop punt kicks, developing their precision and power for game day.
The Year 1’s are focusing on perfecting their dribbling techniques, ensuring they’re ready for fast-paced action on the court. To round out their training, Years 1-6 started cross-country training and are pushing their endurance with dedicated runs to prepare for the upcoming carnival.
It’s an exciting time as our students dive into these diverse sports, showing determination and teamwork every step of the way!
Last Thursday selected year 5 and 6 students participated at the T20 cricket carnival held at Kingsway Sporting Complex. The students showed great resilience performing very well in the hot conditions. All teams tasted success and learnt a lot about cricket through the whole process. Thank you to Ms Rodman and Ms West for helping on the day. The icy poles were a nice touch at the end of the days play.
Yesterday we had a visit from some up-and-coming Eagles players as part of the ' Play AFL campaign'. The campaign aims to motivate children to play Auskick and junior footy for their local footy club. Year 5 and 6 students had a Q & A session where they asked the players various questions such as: What inspired you to play? What has the transition been like moving into a professional team? What steps do you take to look after yourself and balance your daily routine? Are the numbers on your jumpers of any significance? The Year 6 students were also lucky to have a skills session with the players. Mrs James did not think she was 'short in stature' until she had her photo taken with them!
The Carramar Primary School Faction Cross Country Carnival will be held in Week 8 on Friday 28th March. Please see attached information for year group race times. The event is open to all students from Years 1 to 6, and we encourage all students to participate.

Visual Arts @ Carramar
The Year Fives have had a great start to their Visual arts teaching and learning program. The students are reading the text Black Cockatoo in their literacy lessons, so we have integrated this theme and have drawn our own cockatoos. Here the students are using paints, poska pens and oil pastels to create textured feathers. I look forward to seeing the finished artworks and I know the students will be proud to display them around our school.

The Year Three students are really enjoying their Heart Emoji Character Art Project. The students looked at different emotions and how they are represented through emoji eye and mouth expressions. The students then created their own Heart Character which they will be putting on a bright neon painted background. I am super impressed with their ideas and the effort they are putting into this artwork. Fabulous Year Threes!

Music @ Carramar: Instrumental Programs
Year 5 and 6 IMSS instrumental students are making the most of the dedicated space for rehearsals and lessons. Our IMSS students who play Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Classical Guitar have a 30-minute lesson each week. Band rehearsals take place on Friday mornings, and Keyboard lessons with Ms. M are held on Wednesdays. Please check your class CONNECT in content for any updates. Students also have the opportunity to perform at our Faction Friday assemblies.

Sharing Successes

Huge congratulations to Jake in Kindy, T1 and Imogen in Year 2 Room 1. Both ran their first ever 5k park run at Joondalup Lake a couple of weekends ago. They did amazingly, especially as this was by far the furthest, they’ve ever run!
Gael in year 3 has been learning to play some songs on the piano – “APT” and “Count on Me” in only two weeks!

On Saturday last week Maggie in Year 2 S1 won two trophies at Schulz Dance Company for being the best dancer in Jazz. Great job, Maggie!

Dakota from Year 6 in Room 15, has become a Junior Leader in Joondalup Adventure Girl Guides. She helps her leader by assisting with the little kids and making activities to do on camp.
