Issue 14 2024
Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
Here we are in our final week of Term 3. Thank you for another excellent term, albeit busy, but full of learning. Over the past fortnight there have been several incursions and excursions to complement our children’s learning. These have demonstrated the ongoing positive partnerships we have with our community to support our children to achieve their potential and bode well for ongoing success at our wonderful school. (see pictures elsewhere)
It was very pleasing to see so many of you engaging with your children as they celebrated aspects of their 2024 learnings with you at our recent Parent Night – Learning Journeys. The care you share with your children, demonstrates the pride that you have in their learning and in supporting them to be respectful and responsible members of our community. Congratulations to all staff, for the many teaching and learning opportunities you have provided for our students thus far this year. A special thank you to our hardworking and dedicated P & C for ensuring everyone’s tummies were satisfied once again on the night.
Our Student Ministers, with support from Mrs Block, are to be congratulated for the many events they provided during our week of R U OK activities. Whilst R U OK? Day was Thursday 12th September; we are keen to encourage an R U OK? Culture every day of the year in our school community. We acknowledge that children can’t be expected to fix someone’s problems, but they are encouraged to actively listen to what their friends are saying, show they care, and tell a staff member or trusted adult if they are worried about their friend. We thank you for your support in encouraging these behaviours in your children and with your friends and families. (see pictures and report from Student Ministers elsewhere in the newsletter)
Congratulations to all students who participated in our Interschool Jumps and Throws today. We are very proud of your efforts. On Thursday our Interschool Track Events and Team Games Team will participate at Grandis Primary School. We wish all involved the best and know they will be excellent ambassadors of our school. Thank you to our Phys Ed Team and supporting staff, for their roles in preparing and supporting our students. I would also like to thank our parents and carers, who respectfully support both our students and staff at such events. The model of behaviour presented to our children is very important.
We are very grateful of the time that our School Board members volunteer in their role of promoting the school in the community and providing governance. One of the roles of the School Board is the regular review of existing policies and guidelines. Please find attached our revised School Dress Code, which has been endorsed by the Board.
In closing, it is with a very heavy heart that I say thank you and Happy Retirement to our wonderful Manager of Corporate Services, Kathy Bullock. Kathy has been a loyal employee of the Department of Education for over 26 years, and we are very fortunate that over 20 of those have been here at Carramar Primary.
Kathy was our foundation Manager of Corporate Services, a position she has held since 2004. Under Kathy’s leadership, our front office has gained a strong reputation as being very welcoming, always helpful, and extremely professional.
Over the years Kathy has met many staff, students, and families. She has always held the school’s best interests at heart, and willingly supported all to embrace the many changes that have occurred throughout her time, always to enhance the effective functioning of the school. Kathy’s passion for ensuring our grounds look fantastic and litter free has left its mark on many.
Kathy’s retirement marks the end of an era here at Carramar. We will greatly miss her humour, hard work and caring, positive attitude, and hope that she has left all the answers to her many years of knowledge in “the book of Kathy”. I’m sure you join with me in saying a huge thank you, Kathy. We wish you the very best in your next chapter. Congratulations! May your retirement be long and happy!
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday with some special down time with family and friends.
Term 4 resumes on Monday 7th October for teachers and Tuesday 8th October for students.

Cyber Safety
Last week the Year 5 classes had a very engaging visit from Acting Senior Sargeant Rebecca Ransome, Willow's Mum.
What a fantastic talk! All ears listened carefully to what is involved when children interact and share content with others online, and how their personal safety can be affected by what they share.
Rebecca talked about identifying unsafe interactions, what to do and where to go for help.
As 10-year-olds are at the beginning of the 'experimental phase', we can expect children to make mistakes and errors of judgement. They need us to be aware of what they are doing so we can support and protect them.
Here are a couple of TIPS so you can have the talk and lay down some expectations.
- Mum and Dad can look at what you're doing.
- You don't delete the search.
- If you want to access a site, you ask Mum and Dad to enter the password.
- Mum and Dad can do a dip-check into your conversations online.
- You tell Mum or Dad if you are worried about something you have seen or heard that is inappropriate, and what that might be.
- You keep to the time schedule when all devices are off and away.
As the average age of gamers is 35 years old, your child must let you know if they are asked to follow someone onto another platform. This is highly likely grooming language and behaviour.
The incident must be reported THEN blocked. You can report the incident to the police and the E-Safety commission, and on most sites.
Thank you, Rebecca!
R U OK Week
R U OK Day is about encouraging people to have conversations that can help people through difficult times. It revolves around asking “are you ok?”, to simply anyone who seems to be having a bad day.
At Carramar last week, students participated in a bunch of R U OK activities held by the ministers at lunch times to spread kindness around our school.
On Monday, people were invited to chill in the undercover area to start their colouring competition with some uplifting tunes.
On Tuesday, students came in to make their own sun and write the people that they love on their masterpiece. Some people chose to continue their colouring in.
On Wednesday, the kids could draw a bunch of pictures and positive quotes around the flag poles in chalk. Xavier from Year 4 said the chalk activity was his favourite and found it very calming and fun. The quote he wanted to put out there was to “be kind to everyone.”
Thursday was the official R U OK day; Students were asked to dress in yellow and bring a gold coin donation for the charity Beyond Blue. $420.00 was raised.
And remember to always ask R U OK no matter what day it is.
Sharing Successes
Abbey from year 5 is playing her first year of soccer for the Carramar Shamrock Rovers. Earlier this year, she got player of the match at Grandis Park. She said “It was so much fun playing and I had lots of fun.” We wish Abbey luck with her upcoming matches.
Senan and Caoimhe from years 3 and 5 recently passed a new level of their gymnastics club, Next Level Gymnastics Academy. They both moved from grey to orange. Caoimhe said “I’m so happy that we both passed and I hope I can now pass the next level.” We wish Senan and Caoimhe luck with their future gymnastics.
Music with Ms M
Pre-Primary Music
Our Pre-Primary students made instruments this term. Thank you for supporting them at home to create a percussion, string or woodwind instrument. They have loved playing their very own instrument.
Year 4 Music
Our Year 4 students have been busy learning the recorder this year as they prepare to be part of the IMSS Instrumental program at Carramar. Instruments offered include flute, clarinet, trumpet or trombone and Classical Guitar. Students have completed the Musical Aptitude Indicator listening task in music, which is part of the selection criteria that Ms Malinovic uses for the Year 5 and 6 instrumental program. Many students have also earned the Black Belt certificate at this weeks’ Faction Friday assembly. Students will soon be receiving an Expression of Interest letter that will provide more information about the IMSS instrumental program. Please email Ms Malinovic, if you would like your child to be considered. Places are limited so please sign letter promptly if your child receives one, so that all places can be filled.

WAGSMS
This year’s WAGSMS’ performance at Perth Crown was a memorable event that many students will remember as a highlight of Primary School. Photos and Video of our performance can be purchased through Galea Studio through a digital download. Thank you to those teachers and parents involved in making this year’s performance amazing.
Year 2 Wanneroo Museum/ Cockman House
The year 2 students in S1 and S3 went to the Wanneroo Museum and S2 went to Cockman House. They dressed up in old fashioned clothes, played old fashioned games, made peg dolls, and learnt about the history of Cockman House and Wanneroo.
Year 3 Scitech Excursion
P & C Chat
P&C Chat
And that's a WRAP on our epic Sausage Sizzle Season! But don't you worry.... after a short reprieve, we will be back behind the barbecues for Term 4 fun.
No one can deny the perfect weather for Faction Carnival take two. An enormous thank you to Woolworths Banksia Grove for your donation of Sausages for the day. There were plenty of hungry parents there who enjoyed a tasty lunch provided by the P&C.
And who can forget our talented baking community? Thank you to all who donated the tasty treats again! Everything was sold and loved! Thank you all. Such a team effort.
We, of course, backed the event up with our OPEN NIGHT DINNERS! Burgers and hotdogs were enjoyed in the breaks between amazing classroom activities. I know we are always saying this.... BUT ITS SO TRUE! This event couldn't have happened without the beautiful volunteers who give up their time to organise, serve, cook, set up and clean up! What generous people we have in our midst.
Term 4 is just around the corner, now. We are looking forward to the silly season as much as you are, and we cannot wait for our Term 4 events.
Enjoy your holidays
