Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
Over the past fortnight our school has been an absolute hive of many wonderful learning opportunities: Science Week, Year 5 Bushfire Incursion Year 6 CoWS Project with JBSC students, Kindergarten Faction Carnival, and Year 3-6 Faction Jumps, Throws and Long-distance Events! Wow! The photos throughout the newsletter are testament to the great collection of experiences the children have had.
Science Week once again provided our students with the opportunity of sharing their scientific learning with family members through many engaging activities. Thank you to Mr Greyling, the Science team, staff and all family members who were able to come along and join in– the children loved it!
Our Kindergarten Faction Carnival and our Year 3 -6 Faction Jumps, Throws and Long-Distance events provided another great day for our school community to be part of the children’s learning. All students are to be commended for the way they participated and the sportsmanship they demonstrated. Huge congratulations to our Kindergarten students, and staff and families for a very exciting morning at their very first Carnival. Seeing our youngest students participate with such enthusiasm (along with their parents) was an absolute delight! Congratulations to all. Thanks to Mr Malatios and Mr Cox for their coordination of arrangements for our Year 3-6 events.
Kindy Faction Carnival
This Friday we are hoping to have our PP-Year 6 Faction Carnival - fingers crossed! It is always a great day, with everyone looking awesome in a sea of faction shirts/colours and hats, supporting each other and fun being had by all. Whilst the weather forecast is a little concerning, we are hopeful of being able to proceed. If the situation changes, we will advise. A final decision will be made tomorrow.
Thanks in advance to Mr Malatios and Mr Cox for their coordination of the day and all staff, for their excellent support, especially our Pre-Primary teachers, who do a great job ensuring our younger students have an exciting morning out on the “big oval”. We hope to have time for some Parent Events. If the enthusiasm of our Kindergarten parents last week, coupled with parent involvement from previous years is anything to go by, I’m sure these events will be very entertaining, so get your teams ready.
To assist with ensuring the day goes well please familiarise yourselves with the arrangements as outlined in the next section below.
In closing this week’s newsletter, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support in promoting the benefits of reading to your children and for preparing them in their creative costumes for our Book Week Dress Up Day tomorrow. I’ve no doubt there will be an array of literary characters in the school. As we know, reading everyday is a very important aspect of our students’ learning, with so many long-term learning benefits: mental stimulation, vocabulary development, improving our memory, our writing, our concentration and most importantly, being a great habit for stress reduction. Our beautiful library is the central hub for our school, and we sincerely thank our library officer, Tam Gordon, for the great work she does to ensure our students have so many awesome books to choose from. There is something very special about holding a good book in your hands and whiling away some quiet time to yourself.
Have a wonderful fortnight everyone – weather permitting, I hope I see you on Friday.

Faction Carnival Day Friday 23rd August 2024
Thank you for ensuring children come to school with all their needs for the day: hat, morning tea (lunch if necessary) and water bottle in their bags.
Given the forecast please ensure your child comes to school prepared. If they have a rain jacket, please pop it in their bag. (and maybe some warm clothes) If there is a chance we get some sun, please remember to apply sunscreen at the start of the day. Sunscreen will be also available in the Faction Bays and Team Game stations
If coloured zinc or hair colour is to be used, we ask that this is applied at home.
Children are to report to class when the gates open at 8.30am (regular time).
Parents are encouraged to find a spot on the oval and set up for the day, in areas assigned to spectators.
After attendance has been recorded, Year 1-6 students will meet in their assigned faction areas before moving onto the track under the direction of their Faction teachers.
Pre-primary students will move onto the oval with their class teachers and Education Assistants.
Whilst we welcome your support and encouragement, we ask that parents remain in the spectator areas. Faction Bays and Competition Areas are essentially classrooms. As such we ask that parents do not enter these areas - thank you.
Pre-Primary students will return to their classrooms at the conclusion of their events (around 10.30am) and continue with their regular timetable for the remainder of the day.
As it is a regular school day, we ask that children remain with their class/their faction for the whole day and are not signed out early to sit with parents – thanks again
Morning Tea for Years 1-6 will occur between the changeover of team games and track events. Students will remain with their teachers during this time.
Lunch Break: During the lunch break, children are welcome to sit with their families and friends.
Families with Pre-Primary siblings are welcome to take their family to the Early Childhood Area for a family lunch. At the conclusion of the lunch break, Pre-Primary children will return to class. Parents and older siblings will return to the oval for the remaining events.
For safety reasons there is to be no one on the track, during the lunch break. This is when the timing gates are dismantled and removed from the track.
All playground areas will be out of bounds for all students during the day.
At the conclusion of the Carnival, presentations will take place on the oval.
Years 1-6 children will then return to class with their teachers.
Parents wishing to collect their children at this time are asked to sign them out at the classroom.
Thank you in advance for your support of these arrangements.
We look forward to seeing you there – I’m sure it will be a wonderful day.
Sharing Successes
Congratulations to all the students that have taken part in events recently, and we congratulate all the students that have won awards. Here are some of the Carramar Stars that have taken part or won awards in recent events.
Last weekend, Carter from Year 2 received Man of the Match in soccer, which was a special moment for him. Carter plays for Carramar Shamrock Rovers and they won their game against Joondalup City. He has been playing soccer since he was 3 years old and is very proud of his achievement of winning man of the match. Carter said he felt so happy and was buzzing after it. Well done, Carter!!
The whole team, Carramar Shamrock Football Club - U9 Purple Team, were awarded player of the match because they all played an outstanding game against Alkimos Football Club
Carramar won 3-2 in an amazing game. Well done to Jamie, Freyr and Jude in year 3 and Noah in year 4. Keep up the great work and good luck for the rest of the season!
Recently, Nicholas from Year 6 played and his 50th AFL match, and is very proud of what he achieved. Nicholas enjoys spending his time playing AFL, and he really showed his passion in his last game, winning the match and receiving a certificate for it. He plays for Joondalup Kinross Jets Football Club, and they enjoy him playing for them, just as much as he enjoys playing for them.
Jasmin and Scarlett from Year 6 had their mid season dance concert for Esteem Dance Company which was held Quinns Baptist Collage. Jasmin performed in Hip Hop and Scarlett performed in Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical. Well done girls and we wish you the best for your end of year performance!

Year 5 Fire Truck Incursion & Bushfire Safety Talk
Last week, the Year 5s had a visit from Bonnie Rodman (our school chaplain and volunteer firefighter). Bonnie spoke to us about bushfire safety, the causes of bushfires, bushfire prevention, firefighter clothing and equipment and the importance of creating a home safety plan.
We also had a Fire Truck Incursion whereby Bonnie and volunteer firefighters from Wanneroo visited us. We got to experience holding the fire hose, wearing some of the clothing and sitting inside the fire trucks.
Thank you so much Bonnie and fire crew for giving up your time and educating us about fire safety.

C.O.W Project
The “City of Wanneroo” Project Team have been working hard on the 2024 project. We officially began to prep and prime the boards ready to paint on last term and well underway with the project alongside students from Joseph Banks Secondary College.
We started with a sketch and moved to painting the mural with guidance form Joseph Banks Secondary College students, Jerome and Annette. We are well underway with the painting process and are learning so much about the history of our area and painting techniques.
The mural tells the story of the connection between Lake Joondalup and Lake Mariginup through underground waterways. The COW team and JBSC students researched animals and animal prints that could be included on the design specific to the area. From our research we have discovered specific patterns which will be included in the mural.
As a team, the COW’s believe that this project has given them the opportunity to work with other people in the community and to plan and communicate ideas to ensure that the mural reflects its intended purpose. Many of the COW team feel a lot more confident to express their ideas to others. We are looking forward to revealing the final artwork.
