Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar families
Welcome to Term 3.
Our term has started very well with all classes settled and busily engaged in their learning.
At our recent School Development Day, the theme was “The Premiership Quarter”. We reviewed the Positive Climate for Learning pillar of our School Business Plan: our whole school commitment to Social and Emotional Learning, inclusive of our Expectations, in particular Respect. An aspect of Respect that we discussed was the overall meaning of the word; breaking it into its parts and considering their meanings; ‘re’ and ‘spect’; what it means for us, for our children and our parents and how we all demonstrate Respect in our daily actions with each other. We also reviewed our existing Behaviour Forms and will provide further updates in our Week 4 newsletter.
Sincere thanks to all parents and carers who took the time to read your child’s Semester 1 Report with them and give them feedback on their efforts. Sharing your child’s Report with them not only demonstrates your “Respect” for their schooling but also provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your children’s efforts and recognise their progress, and emotional development. We were most concerned at the results of a survey conducted last week that suggested that not all students had seen their Semester 1 report or read it with their parents. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you are unsure how to access your child’s report in Connect. We are keen to work with you to ensure all children are aware of the information in their Report.
Term 3 is often referred to as the “Sports Term”. With our schedule, including upcoming State Championships, In-Term Swimming and our Faction and Interschool Carnivals, plus the Olympics less than 10 days away, that would seem a very fitting title.
The oval has been a hive of activity with Mr Malatios and Mr Cox busily preparing students in readiness for the State Cross Country Championships, next week, and our annual Faction Carnivals in Weeks 5 and 6. Information regarding which events Yr 3-6 children will be participating in at the Faction Jumps, Throws and Long-Distance Event Day, on Friday 16th August will be available at the end of this week. Please remember to keep Friday 23rd August free, Faction Carnival Day, it is always a fantastic day!
Next week our Years 2-6 will be involved in In-Term Swimming. This has required a significant amount of organisation, especially regarding revised timetables. Recess and lunch breaks for some of our Yr 2-6 classes will be at different times. As such Canteen services will not be available during Swimming (Weeks 3 and 4). Thank you for ensuring your child/ren are ready and prepared for swimming each day (remembering bathers and underwear is key)
Ms Malinovic, Mrs Camm and Mrs Block have been very busy, assisting the students involved in WAGSMS, which takes place at Burswood on Monday 5th August. The children are getting very excited as the day looms closer, and we look forward to the preview of their item at the dress rehearsal tomorrow.
The lovely Makaru rains have been a welcome relief, especially to our farmers, and it is wonderful to see our students dressed in their Winter Uniforms.
Thank you to all parents for ensuring that our students are dressed in accordance with our Student Dress Code. They look fantastic! Our School Board has reviewed our existing Dress Code and the updated Guidelines will be available in our Week 4 newsletter. Until such time, the current Guidelines are in place. https://www.carramarps.wa.edu.au/pdf/policies_dresscode.pdf
At our cohort assemblies last week, many year levels revisited our Dress Code to remind the students of the expectations. Main areas of discussion were the colour and length of pants/shorts, hairstyles, and jewellery.
As noted in the current Dress Code Guidelines our Winter Dress Code includes:
- Navy Blue Zip Jacket (no hoods or slogans, except for school logo)
- Navy Blue and Gold micro fibre Jacket (no slogans, except for school logo)
- Navy Blue track pants/cargo pants (or similar)
- Navy Blue tights or navy-blue full-length leggings
- Navy Blue Zip Jacket (no hoods or slogans, except for school logo)
This Friday our Dress Code may look a little different, but it is for a very worthy cause. I am sure we will look fantastic in our PJs in support of the Smith Family. Depending on the weather we may need to pack our wellies rather than our slippers as we demonstrate our commitment to National Tree Day.
We are very grateful to The City of Wanneroo for the trees and tube stock that has been donated to us. The larger trees will be planted along the fence line between to school and the oval to continue to build our wind break. Each class will receive one of the 32 samples of tube stock to ‘pot on’ and care for in readiness for planting out next year.
We have also received a Seed Library as part of the Seeds in Schools Project. This library consists of 4 seasonal boxes with 160 packets of heirloom vegetable, flower, and bush tucker seeds for us to grow in our gardens and use for various teaching and learning activities. We are hoping to source some egg cartons and seed trays to plant the seeds in and are hopeful for some successful germinations. If you have any seed trays, egg cartons or 15cm black pots to assist with our planting program we would be most grateful.
In closing it is with much sadness that we farewell one of our gardeners, Jeff. Unfortunately, Jeff has been unwell, and has made the difficult decision to give up his role at Carramar. We are so grateful for all that he did to maintain our beautiful grounds during his time with us. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Jeff; he loved working at our school as much as we loved having him here. I am sure you join with me in wishing Jeff well in his next chapter in life and thanking him for all that he did for Carramar Primary.
Have a great fortnight,

Sewing in Year 5
The Year 5's are so proud of their sewing creations in Design Technologies. They had to research the production of material such as wool, cotton and polyester. In Rooms 11 and 12, students created a comfort sensory toy. Room 13, designed and created a rescue pouch for an animal. Students learnt how to sew by using the running stitch, overstitch and backstitch. Some now even know how to sew buttons on.
Joseph Banks Secondary College Science Road Show Incursion
The Year five students were very privileged to have Mr Nathan White and Miss Zoe George, from JBSC, visiting our school this week. The teachers from JBSC taught the students more about Chemical Science and reversible and irreversible changes to solids, liquids, and gases. The students were very excited to be part of the investigations which sought to find out how certain gases reacted to heat sources and when under pressure. We are very grateful for them visiting us and teaching us a lot more about Year 5 Chemical Science. Joseph Banks Secondary College also provide opportunities for primary school children to attend their science club (Sciscope) which run every Thursday afternoon during term weeks. Application flyers are available through our front office.

Auslan
Pre-Primary and Year 1 students
Did you know that butterflies are deaf? They are silent and feel through vibrations and are commonly used as a symbolise deafness in Australia.
Pre-Primary and Year 1 students are learning Auslan (sign language for Australian Deaf people) and made these beautiful butterflies. They certainly brighten up the classroom!
Italian
Sporty Year 5 and 6
Students used various pronoun/verb combinations in Italian and created a Pic Collage demonstrating different sports. They had lots of laughs creating their photos.
Bravissimi studenti!
Tongue-Tied Yr 3 and 4
Yr 3 and 4 students discovered some strange Italian Tongue Twisters and in pairs, made Pic Collages translating from Italian and English. Mrs D'Onofrio regretted showing students the tongue twister about spiders (eek!) and quickly added only cute spider images were allowed.
Stylish Yr 2 Italian
Yr 2 students discovered a range of Italian cars and scooters and decorated a classic Fiat. Zoom, zoom, they look fantastic!
Technologies with Mrs Hughes
Students from Year 1 are learning Sequencing and Programming in their progressive coding skill development.
While the Year 2 students are progressing well with their skill development in Fundamentals of Coding.

On beam, floor, and bars she scored an 8.6 or over and on floor her score was over a 9.0. We wish Emma luck at her future competitions.

Chaplains Corner
Kaya Carramar Family,
Welcome back to another exciting term. Can you believe it’s already Term 3!
I am excited for what term 3 brings with events such as Faction Carnival, Swimming Lessons, class excursions and more. I will also be introducing an exciting Community Engagement that will go to the other side of the world and make a huge impact. A little hint for what’s coming later this term “Shoe Box”. I am excited to be alongside you on our journey through term 3 together.
This term, our focus will be on the theme of Respect. We've been exploring how small acts of respect and kindness can create a big impact in our school community and beyond. It's been wonderful to witness students embodying empathy and support for one another, from simple gestures of friendship to being respectful of each other’s personal space and boundaries. It's great to see this already happening – Only first week in!
A gentle reminder as to how your child can get access to the Chaplain. Firstly yourself/child needs to let their teacher know you would like to see the Chaplain. From here, the teacher will send me an email advising your child would like to see the Chaplain. I will then organise a time that suits the classroom schedule to meet with your child. For term 3, I will be working Thursdays and Fridays.
I wanted to also say a massive Thankyou to the Carramar Community for your continuing support and encouragement. I absolutely love being part of our school and outer community. Let's make term 3 a time filled with learning, growth, and choosing respect.
“There is a universal respect and even admiration for those who are humble and simple by nature, and who have absolute confidence in all human beings irrespective of their social status.”

Music with Ms Malinovic
Ms Malinovic, Mrs Camm and Mrs Block will be taking 60 Carramar students to perform on stage in the Crown Theatre as part of WAGSMS (WA Government Schools Music Society) on Monday 5 August. Students have been rehearsing each Tuesday after school for this performance. Our item, “Home Among The Gumtrees.” includes songs that relate to Gumtrees and 'Carramar' - Home of the Shady tree.
The Crown audience will be entertained by our cheeky Gumnuts hiding from hikers, kookaburra’s who laugh and dance hip hop, birds flying, platypus ambling, emus arching, kangaroos hopping and all on 'Boodja' the land that our First Australians walked on.
Our Junior and Senior Choirs, CHORUS & CHOIR, performed at our Naidoc Assembly on the last day of Term 2 to our school community and our special Guests.
Students in Music have been inspired by our visit from Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse to continue learning Noongar Songs that have cultural significance.
