Issue 9 2024
Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
Welcome to our final newsletter for Semester 1.
As our days are getting longer with the Winter solstice approaching and our mornings are certainly a bit chillier, our staff and students may be feeling a little tired with our longer than usual Term 2, being 11 weeks. When all things are added up, by the end of next week our Pre-Primary - Year 6 students will have been engaged in nearly 100 days of learning and our Kindergarten students will have tallied up close to 50. Well done to you all! Thank you, parents, carers, and extended family, for the manner in which you have supported all the learning experiences that have been provided for your children, including the many events that our P & C and Student Leaders have coordinated. Thank you also to our Playgroup Coordinator, Hollie Hawton, and your team of supporters for the great work you have done with our future CPS students each Monday morning. I’ve no doubt everyone will enjoy their very well-earned Semester 1 break.
It has been most pleasing to see the number of permissions slips and information relating to your child/ren’s Swimming Level that have been returned in readiness for Term 3 In-Term Swimming for Year 2-6. If you haven’t already done so, please send these through ASAP, as this information is required to assist both the Swimming Venues with their staffing requirements, and us with our planning. Thanks also to families who have finalised payment. Please contact the school if payment options are required.
This Friday our school will be hosting the Interschool Cross Country Carnival. Congratulations to all students who have been selected. Your many hours of dedicated training will certainly hold you in good stead, and we know you will do your best which is all we ask. The following Monday our Year 6 cohort are involved in the annual Winter Lightning Carnival. Thanks in advance to them for being excellent ambassadors of our school. A very big thank you to Mr Malatios and Mr Cox for their coordination of these events and to our Year 6 staff and Chaplain Bonnie for assisting with umpiring, coaching and supervision.
Next week we celebrate NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginals and Islanders Day Observance Committee. NAIDOC Week is a special time to celebrate the achievement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders and deepen our collective understanding of our culture and history.
The 2024 NAIDOC Week theme is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud’. The fire represents the enduring strength and vitality of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. ‘Blak, Loud and Proud’ encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity, empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to stand tall in their heritage. This year’s theme invites all Australians to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue, to foster a society where the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous peoples are fully valued and respected.
On Friday, to culminate NAIDOC Week, our City of Wanneroo (CoW) Project Team will be hosting the NAIDOC Assembly. Each cohort will share a summary of the learning they have done throughout this week and our choir will be performing. Thank you to Mrs Block and Mrs McLeish for coordinating this event. Please come along and share in your children’s learnings.
Semester 1 Reports: Our Kindergarten students’ reports will be going out tomorrow – please check your child’s bag. Reports for Pre-Primary – Year 6 will be sent out via Connect on Friday 21st June – please ensure that you have Connect set up. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the front office. Thank you for taking the time to discuss your child’s Semester 1 Report with them – it is most important.
As we move to our holiday break, I do ask for your support in keeping our school safe. Unfortunately, we have had a spate of vandalism which is not only very costly but is also very disheartening for the students to see. The students have great pride in their school and in how it looks and are very saddened when they arrive at school to see ‘their” grounds, equipment and buildings damaged. Thank
you for keeping an extra eye (and ear) out over the holiday period. Please call the Police and the Neighbourhood Watch number should you observe or hear any antisocial behaviour
Enjoy the holiday break. Travel safe on the roads and enjoy time with family and friends.
School resumes for students on Tuesday 16th July.
We look forward to another wonderful Semester to round off 2024.
