Issue 9 2023
Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
Welcome to our new newsletter format. We hope you like it.
The Winter/Makaru rains have certainly arrived. We are hopeful that the heavy rain has not caused too many problems for you, our water reservoirs are getting a long awaited top up and our farming communities are receiving the rains they require to get the cropping season off to a good start.
We were so fortunate to have such a beautiful day for our recent Interschool Cross Country. Congratulations to all involved and a special thanks to our P & C for providing yummy sustenance for the parents of visiting schools. Please see photos and information regarding results elsewhere in the newsletter.
Students were certainly very excited when the drone arrived to do the aerial survey of the school recently. Everyone is to be commended on following requests to ensure minimal movement around the school whilst the drone was operating. We await the report.
If you haven’t yet done so, it is not too late to register for this year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge 2023. Follow the link below for details. Not only is it a fun way to take up a reading challenge, there are many amazing prizes to be won! The challenge is to log 12 or more books before the end date. That includes books read at school and at home. The Challenge is open to students: Kindy and above. Home – Premier’s Reading Challenge (premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au)
It is hard to believe we only have 3 weeks until the end of our first 6 months of schooling in 2023.
Teachers have been busy finalising Semester 1 Reports. These are a formal document that present your child/ren’s progress and achievement in all Learning Areas for the first half of this year. Your child/ren’s Attitude, Behaviour and Effort across all aspects of their learning is also presented. Thank you for taking the time to discuss the report with your child/children – it is most important.
All Reports will be sent out via Connect on Thursday 29th June – please ensure that you have this set up. If you have any questions, please contact the front office.
This week our students will be practicing a 'Lockdown' procedure. Lockdown procedures are put in place to isolate students, staff, and onsite visitors from a perceived threat at the school site. All persons on site are directed how to respond when the alert is made. Such practices are important to ensure that everyone is aware of what to do and how to keep safe in such a situation. Staff will go through the expectations with the children this week. Thank you for talking to your children about this. The key is to remain calm and listen carefully to the teacher's instructions.
Mrs Block and our COWYL Group are enjoying working together to conquer the challenge of preparing the next stage of Koolungus Mia Kurrigen. It will be a very eye catching addition to the area. All will be revealed in NAIDOC Week at the end of the term. Thank you to Mrs Block, our Mr West and Tara from Joseph Banks Secondary College for their contributions and ongoing support of this project.
This Friday is our Annual Disco – Dress to Impress. Thank you to our P & C and their band of supporters for coordinating this free event for the children. Thank you for placing your Sausage Sizzle orders, which are now closed. The canteen will be also open for ice-creams and drinks. Children attending each session will be provided with a coloured wrist band. They may purchase from the canteen at the end of their session.
Please remember that parents / guardians must bring and collect children. Children cannot come to, or leave from the disco unaccompanied – it is very important that everyone arrives and leaves safely. Thank you for your support, especially in being prompt for pick-ups. I know the children are looking forward to a great night.
We look forward to seeing everyone in their snuggly PJs on Pyjama Day: Friday 23rd June. This is a Gold Coin Fundraiser that our Student Ministers are coordinating for Pajama Foundation.
Have a wonderful fortnight everyone. Keep warm.

Interschool Cross Country
On Friday, 2nd of June, students from Carramar Primary School attended the Interschool Cross-Country hosted on home soil. The team was made up of students who were selected from Carramar’s own Cross-country in Week 2. Carramar Primary finished in 2nd place overall, a place better than last year! The team had a total of 9 medal winners from the day along with 25 students finishing in the top 10 in their respective age divisions. A huge congratulations to all the students who represented Carramar on Friday for displaying highly commendable resilience in both training and on race day. Lastly, thank you to all the parents and support staff that attended the event.
Many Thanks,
Mr Malatios and Mr Cox
Constable Care
In Week 6, Carramar was visited by the Constable Care Team. For more than 32 years, the Constable Care has delivered creative, performance-based safety and crime prevention programs to millions of WA children. The students were treated to either a puppet show, exploring the bodies warning signs or an interactive dramatic show that depicted how to navigate safety and consent online. We’d like to thank Constable Care for taking the time to explore these vital concepts with our Carramar students!

Barnyard Buddies
Kindy children had a lot of fun with all of the animals that came to visit our school.
Year 5 Perth Zoo Excursion
On Wednesday 7th June, the year five students were fortunate enough to go on an excursion to the Perth Zoo. The students had a great time learning about the adaptation of animals that call the African Savannahs home.
The year five students did themselves proud by being awesome representatives of our amazing school, Carramar Primary. Well done Year 5's!
Sharing Successes
Archer from year 3 said that he did his first parkrun over the weekend and came 99th in the whole competition with over 200 tough competitors and came 2nd in his age division. He loved the atmosphere and how everybody was so positive. If your child has any big achievements in or out of school, we want to hear it. Just email Mrs Block at sue.simpson@education.wa.edu.au or come to Room 15 and tell us about it.
P&C Chat
Is it just us or is Term 2 racing by?! The busy P&C Members can't believe how quickly the weeks are passing.
Well done to Carramar Primary School for doing so well at the Interschool Cross Country. The sportsmanship was inspiring. We would like to start by thanking those who donated cakes and slices to the P&C Stall. Boy, we have some talented bakers in our school! Thank you, also, to the wonderful smiling faces setting up and serving at the Interschool Stall. It is a delight being part of such an amazing team of people.
We are so very excited for the school Tea Towels. This fundraiser is going to offer beautiful keepsakes for years to come. The Tea Towels could be beautiful gifts for the Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles. They are going to be lovely for the children to look back on in years to come.
We are getting some orders coming through now but please remember there is a cut off for orders. Orders are due in NO LATER than 23rd June. Card and Cash payments available.
It's DISCO Time again. THIS FRIDAY, 16th June!
