Issue 5 2024
Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar families
We have had a great start to the Term. Thank you for the role you have played in ensuring such a smooth beginning. We have many exciting teaching and learning opportunities and community events planned for the next 10 weeks. Please check the calendar for what's coming up.
Thank you to Ms Morgan for coordinating the renaming of our blocks and to our P & C for your financial support. I’m sure you agree the new signage looks great!
The focus of our School Development Day last week was Quality Whole School Practices. Staff reviewed our Term 1 Behaviour Data and participated in professional learning relating to Responding to and Managing Challenging Behaviours: identifying cues and using appropriate strategies to support positive engagement & relationships. Continuing our focus on Social and Emotional Learning, especially that relating to Cooperative and Respectful Behaviour, at our cohort mini assemblies last week, staff and students discussed what cooperative and respectful behaviour “looks like” and “sounds like”; clarified what physical and verbal abuse was, especially when playing team games, and discussed what responsible Bystander Behaviour was and the importance of ‘asking for help’ when you see a problem or have one that you cannot solve on your own: how we can all make a positive difference; 'asking for help' v 'dobbing/snitching'. Cohorts also spoke about the importance of demonstrating Respect for our Dress Code, as endorsed by our School Board. https://www.carramarps.wa.edu.au/pdf/policies_dresscode.pdf
If you have any questions relating to any of these matters, please do not hesitate to speak with your child’s teacher or give the office a call. We thank you in advance for your ongoing support in assisting our children to always demonstrate Respectful Behaviour.
We look forward to seeing you at our Commemorative ANZAC Assembly tomorrow morning at 8.50am, as we acknowledge our service men and women and thank them for their service for our country. All students are asked to wear their Carramar Uniforms – no faction shirts please. If your children are members of Scouts or Girl Guides, they are invited to wear their uniforms. Thank you to Ms Malinovic and Ms DelCaro for coordinating this very important event.
A focus of our Grounds this year is the enhancement of our existing play areas and the development of some new ones, along with the purchase of additional and varying play equipment. Our P & C work very hard to support our school and their major Fundraising Event for the year is our Colourthon.
It sees our whole school community, including our Kindy, come together for a fun afternoon to raise funds for our school. It is scheduled to take place in Week 5 on Friday 17th May.
Registration and Fundraising information will be going home tomorrow – please keep a look out in your child’s bag. All participants (students, siblings and family members) are asked to pay a $10 Registration Fee. This Fee assists in offsetting costs to purchase materials for the event. Any funds left over contribute towards the overall funds raised.
Students will also have the opportunity to individually Fundraise by obtaining Sponsorship from friends and family. There will be a grand prize for the overall highest fundraising student and a prize draw for students who have returned their registration by the due date will go into a draw.
Thanks, in anticipation of your support – it is always a great day – hope you can join in the fun!
It has been fantastic to see so many energetic students on the track in the mornings in readiness for our Faction Cross Country next week on Friday 3rd May. Please see attached information with details about scheduled year group race times. Thank you to Mr Malatios and Mr Cox for coordinating this event.
In closing I would like to thank everyone for the respectful support you have provided as we have navigated our way through today’s Industrial Action. It is very much appreciated. We are hopeful that future negotiations have limited impact on our student’s schooling.
Keep well everyone.

You are welcome to watch your child’s race. Each year group will participate at a different time to minimise the number of people in attendance. We ask that parents consider covid safe practices whilst spectating. Thankyou for not entering the marshalling areas or gathering at the finish line.

Welcome to Term 2.
We have an exciting start to the term. We are looking forward to our annual Mothers Day stall which will be held on Thursday 9th May for Pre-Primary to Year 6 and Friday 10th May for Kindergarten. A stall will be set up at recess on the 10th May for exchanges and extra or forgotten gifts. The Mothers Day Stall (and Fathers Day stall) is always one of our favourite events as we get to see each child choose their perfect gift for their parent or care giver. We cherish these experiences with the students and we are constantly blown away with their manners and enthusiasm.
One of the students FAVOURITE events is the COLOURTHON! Carramar Colourthon is happening THIS TERM, week 5, 17th May. Dig DEEP into the terrifying depths of your child's school bag to search for the registration forms as well as the fundraising forms for this event. Each child, parent and support person will need to submit and registration form if they wish to participate. Each form that is received will be entered into the SPOT PRIZE RAFFLE! There will be prizes for highest fundraising as well as registration prizes. We look forward to a fun filled afternoon on the 17th May.
The P&C host one meeting a term. Term 2 Meeting date is Monday 13th May. Time to be confirmed. Please know, you do not need to be a member to attend a meeting. All are welcome and all are encouraged to be a part of the P&C Meetings. I'm sure it will help to know, the meetings usually include chocolate.
Has anyone else noticed the beautiful new additions to our school grounds? The signage on the buildings looks amazing. Thank you to our wonderful school administrators for designing and organising the Noongar and English school block names and the signs to match. The P&C have assisted in funding these gorgeous signs. If you do get a minute, take a stroll around the school to see the signs on each block.
I know it seems like a distant memory, but how amazing was our Dads of Carramar Easter Hunt? There were hundreds of parents and students searching the school grounds for the elusive Golden Eggs. There was hunting and raffling and sausage sizzling through the night. So much fun was had by all and the smiles could be seen for miles. Thank you to everyone who set up and ran the event. To say it was a huge success is a major understatement.
Congratulations to the winners of our Easter Raffle at the end of Term 1. There were over 35 prizes given away and we can not thank this generous community enough. There were KILO's of chocolate, loads of crafts, baskets, toys, jewellery and more, given away to some very happy winners. Thank you to those who bought tickets to support the event.
We would like to take a moment to thank the people who have sponsored and supported our school and P&C. Peter Parsons, from Rize Property donated to our Easter Raffles as well as our Dads of Carramar event. Peter from Rize has offered to support the P&C throughout the year. Sabine Winton MLA has supported the school in many events. Sabine donated to our Easter Raffle as well as many events throughout 2023 and prior. Big W Joondalup also supported our Easter Raffle by donating so many delicious treats. Thank you so much, Big W!
We have long term, ongoing support in many forms. This support is sometimes in food donations, discounts or vouchers. We literally could not achieve what we do, without this ongoing support. With this in mind, we would like to thanks Woolworths Carramar, Woolworths Banksia Grove, Coles Banksia Grove and Farmer Jacks Ashby. The support provided by these suppliers helps us to achieve the lofty fundraising goals we set ourselves so that we can continue to support the school financially.
