Issue 2 2024
Message from the Principal
Thank you for looking after yourselves and the children as we navigate through these very toasty Bunuru conditions. The children are coping well, considering the heat and the necessary modifications to our teaching and learning programs on these very hot days. We are looking forward to a cooler day tomorrow before it warms again at the end of the week.
Our recent Parent Information Sessions provided an excellent opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher/s and hear information about classroom and school routines. It has been wonderful to see all classes engaging in our whole school focus of Social and Emotional and Cooperative Learning, with our Friendly Fridays and Cooperative Learning strategies. Thank you for being proactive maintaining connections with your child/ren’s teachers. This is vital for positive partnerships and positive engagement in all aspects of school life.
Our 2024 Student Leaders are looking forward to their Leadership Forum tomorrow. They will hear from guest speakers Hon Sabine Winton MLA, local identity, Mr Bill Marwick and current staff member Mr Christian Huggins, who will share their leadership journeys, impact on the local community and importance of having a positive mindset and healthy lifestyle. Students will participate in a range of teambuilding activities and commence work relevant to their specific roles and projects. Thank you to Mrs Block for coordinating the day and to Mr Malatios, Mr Walton, Ms Gordon and Ms Malinovic for their support.
Yesterday our City of Wanneroo Leaders met with their Kaardijin Koolangah partners, students from Joseph Banks, to commence planning this year’s project which aims to show the cultural links between our local waterways Mariginiup and Joondalup Lakes. If initial planning discussions are anything to go by, we are set to have another beautiful feature demonstrating our whole school learning about Carramar’s cultural history
Before and after school Specialist Programs have commenced, with choir and instrumental groups meeting with Mrs Malinovic on their scheduled days, and our enthusiastic cricketers enjoying their training with Mr Cox and Mr Malatios, in readiness for the T20 Cricket Carnival next week on Thursday 29th February. Thank you to all staff and parents for your support of these additional learning opportunities.
Also, next week, on Friday 1st March, all classes will all engage in “Clean Up Carramar”, as part of our contribution, to Clean Up Australia Day, We acknowledge that our environmental challenges go beyond one day a year, and welcome your ongoing support with practices that you engage in as a family. Further information will be provided by your child’s teacher.
As mentioned in our first newsletter, it is very important that we model safe road practices, especially at drop off and pick times, in particular Safe Parking. It is not practical for schools to provide enough parking for everyone, and it is important that we all work together to help ease parking issues and keep our students safe.
1.Please DO NOT leave your car if you are parked in a 2–3-minute bay- it is important that traffic flows.
2. Please DO NOT pull into the easement bay near the telecom building on Houghton Drive or the pre-primary gates on Millendon and call your child to the car. If there is no parking, please be patient and go around the block.
3. Please DO NOT use the Staff Car Park to drop off students in the morning.
Local Rangers have been advised of concerns raised and will be increasing patrols in the area to ensure the safety of all road users at these busy times. Many thanks for your support.
2024 Class Representatives
We welcome parents who would be interested in being Class Representatives (Class Reps) this year.
The aim of Class Representatives is to further enhance communication between the school and families, and encourage involvement in school activities and events as active partners in our school.
The role involves:
· Liaising with parents of the class and encouraging them to be involved in school events.
· facilitating communication between the P&C and the parents.
· maybe forwarding Connect messages to further promote school events/activities.
· liaising with other classroom helpers and the P & C to support events.
It is important that Class Representatives are always respectful of privacy, maintaining confidentiality of teachers, students, and parents at all times.
Please advise your child's Class Techer if you are interested in undertaking this role for 2024. We welcome your support and thank you in advance.
The Hunter Hero Foundation helps raise money to support family's like ours when diagnosed with cancer. On Tuesday one of our students, Nova, and her family were taken on a Charter Boat fishing with other children from the hospital. The day was coordinated by the Hunter Hero Foundation and was an amazing day for all.
Get ready to be swept away by the magic of ANNIE the musical! A previous student, Layla is starring as Annie. She would love the support from our Carramar families. Sharing Successes
Congratulations to all the students at Carramar who achieved something big over the holidays. There were so many names, and these are just a few:
Ellie from Year 3 achieved a cheerleading medal at West Coast Fury at a competition in HBF arena. Her team came 2nd but sadly didn’t get into nationals. She found that it was a great experience and is really excited to try again.
2 weeks ago, on Sunday, Archer from Year 4 won a cricket medal for best player last Sunday. He plays for Joondalup Kinross and he really enjoys playing cricket. He was glad that he got the medal, and his team won the game.
Hudson from Year 1 received a medal for Best Player his team The Junior Phoenix Cricket Club. His team came 1st in the game! He was astonished!
Rubie in Year 5 participated in a competition at the Academy of Gymnastic in Butler. Her team came first and she received a trophy. Well done Rubie!
Sogand from Year 6 was awarded a medal at for her solo performance at the Cockburn Ice Arena in the holidays. She was really happy with such a great final score. When she grows up, she wants to be a professional ice skater.
Room 12 Science
The Year 5s have been learning about animal adaptations. We learnt about different types of bird beaks and their diet. In the science lab, we conducted a bird beak experiment where we used different utensils (these represented bird beaks) to pick up a variety of food. We recorded how many of each food item could be gathered in 20 seconds.
P&C Chat
2024 is well underway and our amazing P&C held their AGM, Monday 12th February. Our AGM is the meeting where all Executive Roles are vacated and the positions must be elected and filled in order for the P&C to continue.
We would like to congratulate our 2024 Executive Team.
