Issue 20 2023
Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
Here we are at the end of another school year and what a wonderful year it has been. Our recent end of year events have provided opportunity to pause, and think about what we have achieved, individually and collectively, to honour those who have excelled, and to give thanks to everyone who has had a role in supporting each of us to be the best we can be.
There have been many significant moments throughout the year for students, staff, and families. The shared sense of enthusiasm for all that we do, and the manner in which we work together continues to make Carramar Primary School the wonderful community that it is.
Congratulations to all students who received awards at last week’s Celebration Assembly, to our new Student Leadership Team and our Head Boy and Head Girl Owen and Leigh-Ann. Congratulations also to our graduating Year 6 students. As you embark on the next chapter in your education journey, in a new setting with new friends and teachers, I truly hope your successes are many and your tribulations are few and far between. Keep your sense of wonder, step outside, dance like no one is watching, put your phones down and reach for the stars. I know I speak on behalf of all the Carramar Primary staff when I say - good luck and enjoy the journey.
Please see details of award winners elsewhere in the newsletter.
I would like to take this opportunity to share some special thank yous:
- to our 2023 Student Leadership Team; Student Ministers, City of Wanneroo Student Leaders, Factions Leaders, and Technicians with a special thanks to our 2023 Head Boy and Head Girl, David and Georgia. Thank you all for the excellent manner in which you have undertaken your leadership duties throughout the year under the guidance of Mrs Block, Mr Malatios, Mr Cox and Mrs Malinovic
- to our School Board led by Mr Alex Dunster, thank you for volunteering your time. Your commitment, ongoing support, and encouragement to provide sound governance is very much appreciated.
- to our P & C, led by Mrs West, with great support from her team, thank you for your tireless efforts in promoting our school and creating opportunities for us to come together and raise funds to ensure our students have access to many wonderful resources and facilities that enrich their learning.
-to our Uniform Shop Coordinator, Andrea, a very big thank you for ensuring we always look great.
-to our Canteen Staff – it has been wonderful having our canteen up and running and having yummy food 4 days /week!
And to our wonderful staff, our students and families are so lucky. I feel extremely privileged to work with such a dedicated and committed team of people. We have been through some very tricky times this year and the manner in which you have all supported your students, families and colleagues and been absolutely awesome! Thankyou!
I would also like to make mention of our regular Relief Staff, both teachers and Education Assistants. We are very fortunate that our regular relief team willingly answers the early morning calls to come in and ensure our teaching and learning programs can continue.
-to our Admin team, Deputy Principals, Ms Delcaro, Ms Morgan and Mrs Parker – thank you. Your support has been invaluable once again this year, not just to me, but to our students, staff and families. Special thanks to Ms DelCaro who willingly steps in and manages the school in my absence. And to Ms Morgan and Mrs Parker, your part in just “getting things done” and taking on roles outside your regular duties, has been simply wonderful! I couldn’t do it without you all.
-to our front office staff led by Mrs Bullock, our Manager of Corporate Services, and School Officers, Mrs Erin Martin, Justine Cheverton, Liane Beets and Adrianna Romeo. I’m sure you agree, they are all simply awesome. Whether they’re welcoming new parents, helping staff or assisting sick and injured students, we are so very lucky to have such a wonderful front office team – thank you!
-to our cleaning and grounds staff, Peter, Geoff, Michelle and her team, we say a collective thank you for the work they do each and every day, keeping our school clean and tidy and our grounds looking beautiful. We may not like the sound of the early morning “blower” machine or the edger as it trims the grass along the paving, but we all love what it looks like when it's all neat and tidy.
Chaplain Bonnie: A very special thank you for the wonderful support you continue to provide all members of our school community. We are very grateful to have you with us. Your amazingly brave efforts with the recent fires in our community did not go un-noticed – thank you for everything your do to support all of us.
As is often the case at the end of the school year, there will be some staff changes, both in the roles staff will have for 2024 and staff who will not be with us next year. On behalf of the Carramar community, I would like to offer my thanks to the following members of our team:
Mrs Ashleigh Britton and Mrs Ashlee Wynne: Education Assistants in T1, Rooms 2, 5 and 9
Sincere thanks for the wonderful work you have done with our students and the support you have provided our staff. Your flexibility and willingness to take on all manner of duties is just great.
Mr Conor Reynolds - Year 1 Room 1
We thank Mr Reynolds for his great work in Room 1 on Fridays this Semester and wish him all the best for his future teaching career.
Mrs Michelle Scott - Year 3 T12
We are very grateful for the roles Michelle has undertaken this year, firstly in S4 Year 2, whilst Mrs Toombs was on maternity leave, and then in T12, working in partnership with both Mrs Silva and Mr Huggins. Your flexibility in taking on these roles has been greatly appreciated. We wish you the best for 2024.
Miss Caitlyn Dobbs - Visual Arts and Year 5&6 Drama teacher,
Caitlyn has been an invaluable member of our Staff this year, slotting seamlessly into our Visual Arts team and taking on roles at various school events. We congratulate Caitlyn on her teaching position at a new school in 2024. I am unable to share the name of the school at this point in time. Thank you for everything and all the best for a very successful future.
Mrs Christie Vanderbroek currently teaching Year 2 in S2.
Christie has been part of our staff since 2018. During this time, she has provided great support to our Year 1 and 2 teaching teams and been a member of various committees. Her willingness to contribute to all aspects of our school has been greatly appreciated. We congratulate Christie on her appointment to Pearsall Primary and wish her all the best in her future. We know she will miss us and are hoping she can work out her timetable so that she can still pop in for Friday ‘Coffee Club’ in S Block.
-to all parents and caregivers, I thank you for your support, and for the support you have provided your children, for trusting us with them and for giving us the opportunity to work in partnership with you, developing our students of today to manage the world of tomorrow. I know for some of our parents this is your final year with Carramar Primary. We thank you and wish you all the best for the next chapter of your child's schooling.
A reminder that Semester 2 Reports for Pre-Primary – Year 6 will be available on Connect tomorrow. Thank you for taking the time to read through your child/ren’s reports with them.
Finalised class placements for 2024 will be available on Tuesday 30th January at 1.00pm
School resumes for students on Wednesday 31st January.
My best wishes to you all for a peaceful Christmas and a refreshing and safe holiday.

Early Childhood Chatter
Message from Deb Parker (Deputy Principal - Early Childhood)
Hello everyone,
As we approach the end of another school year, we can reflect on how far thye children have progressed, both academically and socially. I am sure that you are proud of your child/ren as you read their end of year school report.
It was wonderful watching both the Pre-primary and Kindy Christmas Concerts this year. The children were fabulous learning all the words to the songs and all the dance moves – quite amazing! Thank you to all the teachers and education assistants for preparing the children so well – you all did a great job too!
Preparing To Transition to a New Year and a New Class
Close to the end of Term 4, the children and teachers start to prepare for the new year at school.
As part of these preparations, Pre-kindy children are invited to visit the classrooms at their new school, the current Kindy students are invited to visit the Pre-primary classrooms and the Pre-primary students are invited to join the Year 1 students in their classrooms. During this time, they meet the current teachers and join in with activities in the classrooms.
How Can You Support Your Child?
Children (and parents) can become very anxious as the new year approaches. The thought of a different classroom with a new teacher can cause all kinds of stress to families.
There are a few things that you can do to help ease your child into a new class:
· Talk with your child all Summer. Don’t leave it until the week or day before.
· If it is your child’s first year in school, practise leaving them for a short while. Remember to start small.
· Respond to your child’s questions in a calm and positive manner.
· Practise your morning routine before the start of school. Talk about this routine with your child.
· Try to get them excited by:
o Shopping for a new bag, lunchbox and water bottle
o Countdown (5 more sleeps)
o Talk about it and tell family and friends
o Organise playdates with other children
Remember that your child can sense your anxieties. If your child struggles with separation, during those first few days/weeks:
o Find an engaging activity for your child
o Praise your child for playing and mixing with others
o Talk about rewards
o Talk with your child’s teacher, ask them how long it took your child to calm
o Tell your child where you are going and when you will be back
o Say goodbye and leave
o After school, spend quality time with your child
On behalf of all the Early Childhood staff and Admin here at school, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
See you all in 2024.
Room 11 Fun
ROOM 11- PROCEDURAL WRITING, BUDGETING, COSTING, COOKING AND EATING
The students of Room 11 had lots of fun completing a cross-curricular Maths Money and English Procedural writing exercise using shopping catalogues to plan, create a recipe, budget, cost and cook a delicious meal for four at home. These are a few of the happy snaps sent to their teacher to be shared and enjoyed by the class.

And that's a WRAP. Thank you Carramar for this incredible year. What a year it has been. As a community, we have been there for each other through the highs and lows, fires, constant interest rate hikes as well as community events, school fun days and more. We would love to thank you for your support at each and every one of our events. We hope you have loved them as much as we have.
Our Movie Night was a SMASHING SUCESS. The Grumpy Grinch made an appearance, stealing the show. The children loved seeing the Grinch.
Thank you to everyone who helped on the day and those who came to enjoy the evening.
Our Staff car park was filled with the most amazing market stalls you have ever seen. From decadent Cookies and cakes, sweet slushies, beautiful resin art, jewellery, Pokémon Cards and much much more, we were treated to the best of the best. And I must take this time to thank the tireless volunteers at the P&C hotdog and burger stall. You fed each and every person there and with a smile.
Our Christmas raffle was displayed at the Movie Night. An incredible bike, donated by Sabine Winton MLA, was our First Prize. All other prizes were generous donations from our community and we appreciate your generosity.
A massive congratulations to our wonderful 2023. We wish you all the very best for your new journey.
