Message from the Principal

Kaya Carramar Families
Here we are in our final week of Term 1 and what a fantastic way to end our Term, with two extremely successful community events: our 20th Anniversary Celebration and our Carramar Dads Easter Hunt, both showcasing our wonderful Carramar Community and the positive partnerships we share. Thank to our very hardworking P & C for your dedication and coordination of these events, and to staff, students, and Carramar families for your collective support. Please see photos elsewhere.
Congratulations to all students who have maintained their Good Standing this Term. Our whole of school approach to respectful relationships, as part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) strategy aims to build and strengthen students’ capacity to engage in positive relationships, characterised by non-violence, mutual respect, and trust, engaging in Responsible and Safe behaviours and always Learning. Assisting students to communicate respectfully with each other, without engaging in verbal abuse, threats, or physical retaliation, and encouraging them to request assistance from adults (Duty Staff) when dealing with difficult situations, has been a key aspect of our teaching and learning practices.

Parents, caregivers, and families have important roles to play in supporting our work to promote respectful relationships. Thank you for demonstrating respectful behaviours through your daily interactions with students, staff, and fellow community members. We value our partnerships with you and understand the importance of a good working relationship. Please do not hesitate in contacting the school if you have any concerns or queries. Please find attached our Parent and Visitor Code of Conduct and our Wanneroo Education Network (WEN) Code of Conduct as enablers to further support respectful relationships.
In response to feedback from our Reporting to Parents survey conducted last year, next Term we will be implementing a new initiative for Semester 1 Reports. We will be offering an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their Report and clarify any concerns you may have.
School will close at 12.30pm on Wednesday 25th June.
Interviews will commence at 1.00pm and continue until 5.00pm.
Each interview will be approximately 10 minutes. Whilst it is not compulsory, parents are strongly encouraged to take this opportunity. Please mark your calendars and make any necessary arrangements. Further information will be available next Term.
Term 1 will conclude on Friday 12th April, with our Commemorative ANZAC Ceremony, commencing at 9.00am on the lawn near the flagpole. All students are asked to wear their school uniforms (and hats). Please note – NO FACTION SHIRTS ON THIS DAY. Students who are members of cadet groups, scouts, cubs, and guides are encouraged to wear their individual group uniform. (Please bring their school uniform to change into after the ceremony) Parents are most welcome to attend this whole school event as we come together to reflect on the cultural and historic significance of ANZAC Day.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is back. What a wonderful way to wile away some hours on the holidayshttps://www.premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au/
Join the reading challenge for your chance to win some wonderful prizes. Each week, students who log their reading will automatically go in the draw to win a prize. The weekly prizes celebrate students' efforts and encourage them to continue to improve their literacy skills and enjoyment of reading. Weekly prizes are drawn at random from students who have logged their books.
- read a book
- log a book
- go in the draw to win!
It is that easy, and with 12 weeks of the challenge there are plenty of chances to win.

I’m sure you will agree that the lovely Djeran weather is providing welcome respite from what has been a very hot Bunuru season. The cooler nights have allowed easier sleeping and the dewy presence in the mornings have provided a lovely freshness. Our gardens and animals are all saying thank you too.
Please enjoy the lovely weather and time with family and friends over the next two weeks. Thank you for reminding your children about keeping safe:
• Always act with safety, awareness, and respect.
•Have a plan of action if they are out alone and become concerned about their personal safety
•Check with family if plans change about what they are doing, where they are going, and who they are with, including people they know.
•Know how to access help at shopping centres if they become separated from family/friends
In closing, on behalf of the staff, I would like to wish Ms Waghorn all the best on the pending birth of her third child. We are very grateful for the wonderful work Ms Waghorn has done in our Kindergarten for the past two years. During Term 1 of this year, she has been tandem partner for Mrs Robinson Year 1 in Room 3 and Mrs Pelc Year 2, S3. Please enjoy this special time Gill. We look forward to meeting your new bundle of joy next Term.
Term 2 commences for staff on Monday 28th April. Students return on Tuesday 29th April.
Stay safe – look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday 29th April.

Student Ministers Report
Today Lily and I, Lucas, are presenting this fortnight’s Minister Report. In Week 7, the Year 6s went on camp at Cahoots Adventure Camp. It was absolutely action-packed and lots of fun. Bayley Rees from Room 15 said that he enjoyed camp because of the incredibly fun activities that took place over the three days. Austin Robin from Room 16 said that he enjoyed camp very much and his favourite thing was going to Outback Splash on the final day.
Over Week’s 6 & 7, the Year 3’s and 5’s had NAPLAN, and we also had Harmony Week. It was great having so many students dressed in orange for Harmony Day.
Last weekend we celebrated the school's 20th Anniversary. The school held a big celebration with games, entertainment, rides and market stalls. Lily said she loved it because she was having fun with her friends outside school hours. We hope everyone who went had a blast.
Next week is the last week of school, and on the Thursday we have the Interschool Cross Country, which is being hosted by our school. Congratulations to all the students who got in after the events this past Tuesday. We wish you all the best and hope you do yourself proud. We are sure you will do great!
ANZAC Day is commemorated on the 25th of April each year, which falls during the school holidays. So, next Friday we will be hosting a special Anzac assembly. Please make sure over the next few weeks you take time to think of and pay your respects to the men and women that have lost their lives and those that continue to make sacrifices protecting Australia. Lest we forget.
We hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe Easter holiday break.

Art @ Carramar
Early next term, Carramar Primary School will be looking for inspiring young Artists across the school, to enter the Shaun Tan Art Award 2025, at the City of Subiaco.
This Visual Art Award encourages and celebrates imagination, innovation and creativity of WA young artists in years one to twelve.
I am hoping to submit entries on behalf of one or two students from lower Primary, middle Primary and upper Primary. Entries for the 2025 award will open on Monday 28 April and they close on close Monday 19 May 2025.
Students will be working on a new art project at the beginning of Term Two and I will be selecting entry pieces from these projects. I will be looking for artworks that are original and creative and demonstrate good art techniques.
Students may decide to enter the competition as an individual and submit a piece of art that they create at home. If your child is interested in doing so, please visit the following website for further information.

Year 5's Mission to Mars
Year 5 Mission to Mars Excursion
Our Year 5 students embarked on an exciting interplanetary journey to the Western Australian Space Science Education Centre at Joseph Banks Secondary College. This one-of-a-kind excursion allowed our young explorers to step into the shoes of astronauts and Mission Control team members, immersing themselves in the thrilling world of space exploration.
Mission Briefing:
Dressed in authentic astronaut gear, students were given vital roles for their Mars mission. Some students became astronauts, tasked with collecting samples, documenting seismic activity, and testing the rover on a variety of surfaces. They worked in teams to complete challenging tasks, replicating the work real astronauts do when exploring distant planets.
Mission Control:
Meanwhile, a select group of students assumed the crucial role of Mission Control. From this command centre, they gave instructions to the astronauts, monitored their vital statistics, and ensured mission success by recording key data such as temperature, wind speed, and heart rates. Mission Control also had the task of decoding secret messages and troubleshooting any issues faced by the astronauts, much like the scientists and engineers who support space missions from Earth.
Laboratory Experiments:
After completing their mission on Mars, the students gathered their samples and data to conduct experiments in the laboratory. They carefully analysed the materials they collected, learning about the science behind space exploration and gaining hands-on experience in scientific inquiry.
This mission-based excursion provided our Year 5 students with an unforgettable experience that combined fun, education, and hands-on learning. It was an incredible opportunity to spark their curiosity about space science, technology, and the possibilities of the future.
We are so proud of the teamwork and enthusiasm demonstrated by the Year 5 students during this unique and inspiring adventure to Mars.
