Issue 10 2025
Message from the Principal

Kaya Carramar Families
Welcome to our final week for Semester 1.
I begin this week’s newsletter with a sincere thank you to one of our long-standing staff members, Mrs Gayle Foster, who has worked tirelessly in her role as Education Assistant at our school since 2006. Gayle has worked in many classes over the years, and more recently has supported our Kindergarten classes. We are collectively grateful for all the support she has provided to many students, staff, and families. We wish you all the best in your next chapter, Gayle. Thank you for your dedicated service to the Carramar school community. Time to relax and enjoy!
As the Semester 1 draws to a close, I would also like to thank our parents, carers, and extended family, for all the support you have provided your children, for the first “nearly” 100 days of their 2025 school year. (and “nearly” 50 days for our Kindergarten students) I have no doubt the children’s Semester 1 Reports and Display Folders have provided an excellent summary of what they have achieved this Semester. Thank you for taking the time to go through their Display Folder and discuss their Semester 1 Report with them – it is most important for them to receive feedback from you about their efforts. If you have had any difficulties accessing your children’s reports via Connect, please do not hesitate to contact the office.

Feedback from our recent Semester 1 Parent-Teacher Interviews has been very positive, with some classes having close to 100% attendance from parents/carers! A fantastic outcome! Thank you to all parents who were able to attend. Some minor amendments will be made next year, including a 5-minute break between each interview, giving teachers chance to rest their voices.
Recently our City of Wanneroo (CoW) Project Team, Caitlin, Charlie, Shelby, Chloe, Rubie, and Shikha, with support from Mrs McLeish, presented their 2025 project plans to me, and last week they shared their plans with the School Board. Understandably the students were very nervous, but they all spoke very well and provided thoughtful responses regarding their plans to ensure their project continues to thrive, once they have left the school. They will also share their project plans with the students at this week’s NAIDOC assembly. We look forward to seeing their plan come to fruition.

Congratulations to our Year 6 and some Year 5 students who were selected to participate in the annual Winter Lightning Carnival yesterday, playing a variety of team sports including Netball, Soccer, AFL and Rugby. Thank you to all staff involved and all parents who were available to provide support and assist with supervision. The children demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and are to be commended on their behaviour, both on and off the field. Despite the rain that came in after lunch and bought a wet and chilly end to the day, the photos show the children had a very enjoyable day.

This week we acknowledge NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginals and Islanders Day Observance Committee. The NAIDOC journey began as a movement for recognition and rights, sparked by Indigenous communities who saw a future built on justice and equality. Over the decades, it has grown into a powerful national celebration, a testament to the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week is "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy". This theme celebrates 50 years of NAIDOC Week and highlights the achievements of the past while looking forward to the future, emphasising the strength of young leaders, the vision of communities, and the legacy of ancestors. NAIDOC Week encourages all Australians to cherish, celebrate and more deeply understand the unique and rich histories, cultures, contributions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Throughout this week, our students will be engaged in many teaching and learning activities associated with the NAIDOC theme. On Friday, to culminate NAIDOC Week, our CoW Project Team will be hosting the NAIDOC Assembly. Each cohort will share a summary of the learning they have done throughout this week, and our choir will perform. Thank you to Mrs McLeish for coordinating arrangements. Parents are most welcome to attend our NAIDOC Assembly.

Elsewhere in the newsletter you will find VERY IMPORTANT information about a new SMS messaging system for attendance that will commence next term. Thank you for checking this. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.
In closing I would like to say a very big thank you to all staff for their wonderful work over the Semester. We are very fortunate to have such a committed team who show great care for all our students. Thanks also to our Playgroup Coordinator, Sherrie-Lee, (and your helpers) for the work you have done with our future CPS students on Monday mornings, welcoming our new families and helping our young ones feel safe and comfortable at school. And a super big “thank you” to our dedicated and hard-working P & C for all the awesome events you have coordinated thus far. Your collective efforts and support are very much appreciated.
Enjoy the holiday break. Travel safe on the roads and enjoy time with family and friends.
School resumes for students on Tuesday 22nd July. We look forward to another wonderful semester

Sharing Successes
On Sunday 15th June Archie from year 5 played his usual goalie position for his u11 Carramar Shamrock Rovers soccer team and got man of the match and then got asked to step in as goalie for the u12’s team and got man of the match for that game as well. Well done, Archie.

Reece from year 1 won his first 'player of the day' on Saturday playing rugby for his u6 team with the Joondalup Brothers.

Congratulations to Mr Cox on completing his 15 weeks of intense training at the Fire and Emergency Services Academy. All the best Fireman Sam!

Kaleigh from Year 3, Room 1, won a silver medal in her basketball competition on Saturday June 21st, playing for the basketball team The Lakers. Congratulations Kaleigh. We hope you can win a lot more medals and we hope you do well in future basketball competitions!

Hayley in Year 6, Room 15, won her soccer game 3 to 0 against Wanneroo while playing with the Carramar Shamrock Rovers. Great job Hayley and the Carramar Shamrocks. We hope that you guys can win a lot more games and make it far this season!

Reinhart from Year 3, Room 1, progressed to the next level in his swimming class at Waterponyz. He said he achieved this by practicing and practicing, which shows that if you practice enough you can achieve the things you put your mind to!
Year 5 Sewing Project
This term in Design Technologies, the Year 5 students combined creativity and practical skills to design and create their very own comfort toys. As part of the project, students learned and practised a variety of hand-sewing techniques, including blanket stitch, back stitch, and cross stitch. They also developed fine motor skills by sewing on buttons and ribbons to add personalised touches. The results were not only impressive in craftsmanship but also filled with personality and care! We would like to thank Mrs Norcliffe, Mrs West, Lesley, Miss Eddy, Miss Phillips, Gemma, Sarah, Tash, Kat, Kailey, Heather and Ellen for all of your help.

Art @ Carramar
These are some of the masks made by Carramar's amazing Year 5's. The students have all shown their unique creativity and should be very proud of their efforts throughout this Visual Art project. Ms Butler can't wait to showcase them in our Art Exhibition next term.

Squishmallow visit to Room 7
On Friday Room 7 had 25 of the Chaplains Squishmellows visit their class for the day. Mrs Pearce said the kids have had a ball with them all day, making beds for them and dancing. I was so excited to see they have drawn pictures of their Squishmellow friends. I think my Squishmellow friends will have to make more visits to more classrooms next Term.
Thankyou room 6 for taking such good care of my special friends.

Thank you to Peter Parsons from Rize Property, Enterprise Plumbing and Gas, Big W Joondalup and Sabine Winton MLA for supporting the P&C throughout the first half of this year. Without their support, we could not have offered such wonderful prizes or provided as many lunch days and activities. Thank you
