Issue 17 2025
Message from the Principal
Kaya Carramar Families
I trust you have all had an enjoyable fortnight and have made the most of the recent spell of glorious Kambarang weather. The combination of warmer days and late rains has the bush and gardens looking beautiful, and there’s certainly been an increase in reptile activity as we transition to warmer days. Please keep an eye out for our shingleback lizards (bobtails) on the roads and for snakes as they become more active in search of warmth.
Our students certainly showcased their wonderful talents at our annual Carramar’s Got Talent event on the first Friday of term — wow! The audience was thoroughly entertained, and our judges had a very difficult job with so many outstanding performances on display.
A big thank you to Ms Malinovic and Ms Butler for coordinating this fantastic event — what a great way to start the term!

On behalf of all staff, I would like to extend a very big thank you to our parents, students and P&C for your kind messages of appreciation, and an extra special thank you for the delicious morning tea provided for World Teachers’ Day last Friday. We were truly grateful for your thoughtfulness and generosity.

Thank you to all our Year 5 students who bravely nominated for 2026 leadership positions, including Student Ministers, City of Wanneroo (CoW) Leaders, Faction Leaders, Assembly Technicians, and Art, Library and Music Assistants. Congratulations to our aspiring Student Ministers who presented their speeches today, their preparation and confidence are to be commended. Our 2026 Leaders will be presented to the school at next week’s assembly and will “shadow” our current Student Leaders for the remainder of the year to learn more about their roles. They will be officially presented with their badges at our Celebration Assembly on Friday 12 December. Thank you to our Year 5 staff and parents for supporting students throughout the process, and to Mr Huggins for his coordination of the Student Leadership Team this year, along with Mr Malatios, Mrs Kent, Ms Malinovic, Ms Butler, Mrs Gordon and Mr Walton for their ongoing support.
It was wonderful to meet and welcome so many new parents to our school community last week at the Kindergarten Information Session. We are very excited to meet their children, our 2026 Kindergarten students, as they attend their Stay n Play session with their parents this Friday. Thank you to Ms Morgan and the Kindergarten team for warmly welcoming our new students and families. I know they will thoroughly enjoy their learning journey with us.
Please take a moment to speak with your children about the importance of showing respect for others and making safe choices at the bike park before and after school. It has been brought to our attention that some students have felt intimidated by the behaviour of others, and a few parents have expressed concerns about unsafe riding practices by some students. Thank you for your support in helping to keep everyone safe and ensuring the bike park remains a positive space for all.
Next week promises to be another busy and meaningful one, with Seniors Week, Remembrance Day, Grandparents Morning Tea and Outdoor Classroom Day taking place.
Seniors Week recognises the important role that older people play in our community as we celebrate the contributions of older Western Australians. Remembrance Day, on Tuesday 11 November, marks the anniversary of the Armistice of 1918 that ended fighting in World War I. At 11.00am we will observe one minute’s silence to honour all who died or suffered in the service of Australia. Grandparents Morning Tea will take place on Friday 14th November. We invite all our Grandparents to join us at the Assembly and stay for Morning Tea in the staff room immediately after. Thank you to our P & C for kindly preparing this for us.
On Thursday 13 November, many of our students will be learning in the great outdoors as we celebrate Outdoor Classroom Day. Learning outside promotes health and wellbeing, engages students in meaningful learning, and helps them build a deeper connection with nature. With many young people increasingly attached to screens, it is more important than ever to encourage outdoor learning experiences.
Next week we will be seeking your feedback through two surveys — the National School Opinion Survey (NSOS) and the School Culture Survey. These short surveys are an important opportunity to share your views about our school and to help us identify our strengths and areas for further development. The surveys will remain open until midnight, Sunday 14 December 2025. Thank you in advance — your responses are valued and appreciated. You will be sent the links to complete both surveys next week.
We wish all students participating in the upcoming State Triathlon on Friday the very best of luck! Congratulations on your dedication and commitment to training — we know you will do yourselves and our school proud.
Thank you to Mr Malatios and Mrs Kent for supporting the students in their preparation, and to our parents for your ongoing encouragement.
In closing, it has been pleasing to see our students arriving calmly and punctually each morning, ready to begin learning at 8.40am. Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring children arrive on time and in school uniform. With just over five weeks of the school year remaining, there is still much learning and many exciting events to come.
Thank you to Ms Morgan for her leadership over the next few days whilst I am on leave. I look forward to seeing everyone next week.
Have a wonderful fortnight

Kaya Carramar Community,
What a wonderful start to Term 4 it’s been. So much talent in Carramar’s Got Talent and getting to meet our incredible new Kindy families for 2026.
Thank you to everyone that contributed towards Operation Christmas Child. I am so pleased to share; our school contributed 80 shoe boxes. That’s 80 children living in some of the most devasted and poorest countries in the world that will get a Christmas present this year. The kind hearts and generosity of our school community continues to blow me away.

The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal is back for 2025!

With the summer fast approaching we will soon be heading into bushfire season. As a community it is so important to educate ourselves on how to prepare our properties and have an action plan in place. With 90% of Western Australia in a bushfire risk area, it is our responsibility to make sure we are prepared.
Information below includes understanding the Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS) which includes, how to read it, what you can do to stay safe and be prepared. Most topics have links to see resources and a video explaining the AFDRS.

With the bushfire season very much at our doorstep, I am forwarding information provided tome below via DFES. Know the Warnings – AFDRS & AWS
Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS)
The Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS) tells you how dangerous a bushfire could be on any given day, using four easy-to-understand levels - Moderate, High, Extreme and Catastrophic, so you know when to prepare, act, or leave early to stay safe.
What you need to know:
- Ratings are based on weather and vegetation conditions.
- There are four levels:
- Moderate – Plan and prepare
- High – Be ready to act
- Extreme – Take action now to protect life and property
- Catastrophic – For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas
What you can do to stay safe:
- Check the daily fire danger rating at Emergency WA and plan your activities accordingly.
- Avoid activities that could start a fire on high-risk days.
- Avoid using machinery or open flames on days rated High, Extreme, or Catastrophic.
- Prepare your property by clearing dry vegetation, cleaning gutters, and removing flammable materials.
- Have a bushfire plan and share it with your household
- Stay informed by checking Emergency WA and listening to local alerts.
Australian Warning System (AWS)
The Australian Warning System (AWS) is a nationally consistent approach to emergency warnings that uses three clear levels - Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning, each with color-coded icons and action statements to help people understand the risk and know exactly what steps to take during bushfires, cyclones, floods, storms, and heatwaves.
What you need to know:
Three warning levels:
- Advice (Yellow) – Stay up to date in case the situation changes.
- Watch and Act (Orange) – Conditions are changing. Start taking action now.
- Emergency Warning (Red) – You may be in danger and need to take action immediately.
Each warning includes an action statement to guide your response.
What can you do to stay safe:
- Know the warning levels and what each one means.
- Prepare your emergency kit in advance with essentials like water, food, medications, and important documents.
- Have a clear emergency plan and share it with your household.
- Stay informed by checking Emergency WA and listening to local alerts.
- Follow action statements in warnings immediately—don’t wait to act.

P&C Chat
World Teachers Day was celebrated on Friday 31st October. What a way to celebrate, not only the Teachers at Carramar Primary School, but the whole staff, with delectable treats and beautifully worded messages. I know there were some very proud teachers out there, enjoying their cards and Morning Tea. Another massive shout out goes to those who offered sweet and savoury treats for the staff to enjoy. Again, you have outdone yourselves. The staff were thoroughly spoilt for choice.

A warm P&C welcome to the new and returning Kindy families joining us in 2026. The P&C had the pleasure of introducing ourselves at the Kindy Parents Only Information season, on Wednesday 29th October.
